I really like this group. They blend the classic punk sound with that funk-punk sound of the talking heads. They really have a great groove in their songs.Their bass player is very good with great grooves. Simple yet great

I like them too. They are only young guys. The bass player uses a Fender Precision that looks like a seventies ash-maple style. From what I've seen live, he uses a classic Ampeg rig. It's just an excellent pick-player bass tone and great groove playing.

Their songs are original, I've known them before they made it big, and never doubted they would.

As far as their music goes though, it is very basic stuff. I've been playing bass less than a year and there isnt a song on the album I can't play. The bass lines need work imo, too much repetition.

Exclamation

oh god, not AGAIN!!!

They're not worth the hype, I personally cannot see how they made it big at all - I've seen bands who are 10 times better musically who have never got a look in - oh yeah, their old bassist is rubbish...I know, I went to college with them! (not slagging the guy off, but I could better him any day of the week) - also their new bassist (whose old band I played with when he left in september) is not that good either really - not bad, but he still only does very basic stuff.

Honestly, I'm sick of the Arctic Monkeys - nothing against them as people, but they're all anyone around here's talked about (musically) for the last year and I wouldn't mind if they had more than a couple of good tracks ("Fake Tales Of San Fransisco" and "Choo Choo") Yup...thats the music scene where I'm from...and I can't even find a good chuffin' band!!!!

(they're from Sheffield - like me...went to Barnsley College - like me (they only left last summer y'know after doing music tech A-levels)...I played with their new bassists old band when he left but it didn't work out...NEAR MISS OR WHAT???!)

I love them. The songs are great, the bassline makes you wanna dance, what more can you expect?

I love them. I can't put my finger on exactly why, but all I know is that when you look at my iTunes playcount list, I have listened to them more over the last 5 months than anything else. Saw them in concert last Tuesday in Dallas. They aren't big on showmanship, but they can certainly play their music well, which for some young bands isn't always a given. It was one of the tightest live performances I have seen. I had thought going into it that Alex might suffer from "studio voice" but was impressed with how solid his vocals were live.

Also, their bass player may or may not be rubbish, but it would be hard to tell by their basslines. The basslines are fairly simple, but they fit the music well. I won't slag anybody's music because there wasn't enough wanking on the bassline. I prefer tasteful playing for most rock music.

I really like them too. Fun music. "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" is a good cover with a fun bassline. It's been a really good couple of years for british music, with the Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks all getting out there.

I actually haven't (knowingly) heard any of their stuff, but I do know that they're mentioned on the cover of NME magazine every damn week.

They are such an average band, everything about them is so average apart from the guys voice which is orginal but apart from that it seems as if you can always tell whats going to happen next, also on all the TV performances I could hardly hear the bass.

I would say though to go straight into number 1 in the UK when they were basically unknown is a major success for the band I like how they do seem very average I think they have yet to find their real niche tho their songs are just plain catchy, you get bored of them in no time. I hope they can take influence from their roots and write some good music.

I despise them. Seems hating them is only popular in Britain though. They're very average as tomthedude says and the guys voice is origional only because he can't sing. Oh wait, Ian Brown invented that technique.

I mean in Britain they're like "Token Indie Band Of The Year" with everyone from politicans to teachers raving about them in an attempt to look hip and cool. Oh shurrup. They're mediocrity at its worst. Don't compare them to Franz Ferdinand either, at least Franz Ferdinand distinguish themselves musically and have a bassist who can at least play basslines with a hint of articulation and likes to actually be heard. Franz Ferdinand, I like, I think people stereotype them as an Arctic Monkey's style "generic indie band" and it's not at all true. They're pretty unique.

If someone starts a thread about how much they love the Kaiser Chiefs next I'm gonna scream.

I reckon that although they may not be the most technically blessed musicians, they can't have captured such a massive fan base without a winning formula.

They're not my fave band but i can appreciate why they're so popular! Good tunes to dance to!
