Tosin Abasi/ Animals as Leaders. They are everything I like in a band but manage not to speak to me in any way at all. I just can't dig the songs. Too many chromatics, songs feel all over the place, nothing to really grab me. Although in some ways he reminds me of Weather Report (he is trained in jazz and it sounds like a very metal, high speed jazz fusion sometimes) and I really appreciate his fingerstyle skill because I am learning electric guitar and much prefer my fingers.

| | | | I could totally dig Carly Rae Jepsen a whole lot more if the songs on her albums sounded different, but almost all of them sound the same except call me maybe. She really has a good voice that I thoroughly enjoy but most of her songwriting is not so great.

I've only ever found one of their albums for sale anywhere in the US, and that includes looking on Amazon and Ebay. The only place I've been able to find it is on Japanese sites that don't ship to the United States or charge stupid amounts of money to do so.
I've resorted to picking up their discography off shady websites and buying their albums whenever they pop up for sale. It's not an easy thing to do.

I gotta warn you though, it's some pretty experimental music. Imagine if Hole circa 1990 did a jazz fusion album and you've got Midori.

Dream Theater - James LaBrie. Nuff said. I actually really dig a lot of their stuff but my aversion to his voice has only gotten worse over time.
| Totally with you on the James LaBrie thing - I referenced my dislike for his voice on another thread here yesterday.

I looked for a few of their other songs from before they were on Sony BMG but Sony doesn't like Midori on youtube and it's a fairly obscure band to begin with so there really isn't much online. These are all from their first and second albums which in all honesty hasn't been their best work.
They really shine when they're on stage but live videos are even harder to find.

| | Plus ça change, Plus c'est la même chose. | | Join Date: Jul 2007 Location: Middletown, OH | | Bad vocals turn me off right away. A few I don't care for are:
Bob Dylan - Nasal voice, sounds like he's whining.
Neil Young - Whining, whining, whining and out of tune.
The Mars Volta - High pitched screeching. And I love Geddy Lee.
Creed - Moaning, mumbled lyrics
Guns and Roses - Axl Rose is just not a very good singer. His voice grates on my nerves.
Fleetwood Mac - Stevie Nicks suffers from the Creed syndrome.
Adele - I don't see the appeal. She's a average singer at best.
Tool - I actually have a few of their CD's, but I don't care for them that much. I love the bass tone, and their ideas. But the same repeated bassline over and over through the entire song drives me nuts.I can stand to listen to them for maybe a minute before I have to turn them off.
I'll also throw in bass slapping of most any kind when it constitutes a large part of a song.

What's the point of having Juan Alderete in the band if you're gonna mix him so low that the stereo has to be on 10 to hear him? Just thin trebly albums thru the entire catalog. Otherwise a totally interesting band. |

Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger just can't sing.
Primus: Les's voice was fun when I was 14, now it's just like I'm hearing a cartoon. |
