The usual response to either would be "I don't know, I've never felt the need to measure".

...using open hammer plucks... maybe 300-330 bpm... its all about techinque man... but its only good for short runs and frankly, it aint got much groove.

Well, I wouldnt consider myself a troll. Awhile ago I actually made a topic in Justin Meldal Johnsen's forum asking him what's his max bpm for 16ths since I'm really curious how does an average joe like me compares to a pro musician like JMJ in terms of just speed. Especially since hes more of a guy who plays to serve the song more as opposed to being a soloist. I really wonder if he constantly woodshed to keep up his 'shredding' chops just incase he needs em

Anyways, it was just asked out of curiosity. I mean, Im a fan of Justin's work, esp those w NIN. And whether his max bpm is 120 or 200, I still have huge respect for him as a bassplayer. But some folks seem take offense in this. Simply put, I got flamed to hell by some of the folks over here who are pretty kind most of the time.

Try asking about something relevant to bass playing.

Well, Im not sure about you. But there are plenty of metal songs that involves 16th root notes basslines, and sometimes I actually play to the click of the metronome at a slow speed to build up consistency and muscle memory.

Well ask a girl sometime, "Do you like a guy that can have sex really fast?" I'm talking tempo here, not duration, which is the obvious joke... Pardon my terminology, I'm trying to keep it clean. She might say "Like, sometimes, for a minute or something."

sounds like you should perhaps think of a way to rephrase the question. maybe something like "what's a benchmark speed for an average joe musician like me?", or maybe something else.

Speed Metal, Thrash Metal, Death Metal - It might matter if you play that crap, but then they're only playing one note per bar, even if they play it 64 times.

I have never heard of that talk about learning something new everyday.
