Attention All Phish Heads

Sign in to disble this ad
What tunes from Phish would you recommend to play for a musician friend to introduce them to the music. I don't know that there would be an entire album. But if you have an opinion then please chime.

name of tune + album?

I'm thinking

Llama - A Picture of Nectar
Tweezer - A Picture of Nectar
Chalk Dust Torture - A Picture of Nectar

just to start with. i have more ideas but want to hear from others.

(put's on the "Phish sux" flame suit)

I would toss in "you enjoy myself" in the mix--thats a pretty big phish song.

and don't leave out the farmhouse cd--i think the title track, dirt and sand are all awesome offerings

Yeah another vote for YEM. Especially if you play the album version from Junta and then pick out your favorite live version (especially one with a crazy improvised vocal jam at the end) for comparison.

its funny because I heard live versions first, and about 6 years later i finally heard the junta version--wow...almost worlds apart!

and to really screw up my perception of that song, i bought the white tapes before i heard the junta version--that was a very unique YEM!

absolutely. YEM is nice little brain twister. i also like how they screw with you rhythmically on the beginning of Mound from Rift.

This may count as heresy, but I really dig the studio version of Piper.

Get A LIVE ONE, phish never has been nor ever will be defined by their studio sounds.
They are a LIVE band, and as such if you want to introduce someone to phish it needs to be in the context of live phish.....
