For those of you experiencing issues with crackling, popping and other noises, as well as brief cutouts when using your Samson Airline wireless unit, I have a fix!
I have found that these issues stem from the flexible antennae on the transmitter, moving while playing.
It is a cheap, quick, and easy fix. Simply find something rigid to attach to your transmitter to keep your antennae from moving! I happened to have some small, thin graphite rod lying around, so I cut it to length and attached it to the transmitter with electrical tape, and then taped the antennae down to that.
I have no more issues with my wireless anymore. It's been used on three gigs now and I haven't one single pop, crackle or cutout during those three gigs. Also, it seems that my range has increased during gigs.
I also applied two small pieces of velcro to my bass, and one on the transmitter bottom. One piece on the bass is to keep the transmitter pointing up when playing (as my receiver is on my amp),and the other is used to keep it locked tight next to my bass controls when I put my bass in my gig bag. Not only does this fix stop the problems, but it also protects the antennae from possible damage.

I posted this for those who have a Samson Airline Wireless and either want to get rid of it, or are thinking of buying a more expensive unit exactly because of these issues I noted.
The problem is easily fixed. The little transmitter is so small and I like it far better than a big strap pack. Plus I get no loss is tone or frequency (it's the Bass version), and my range is great.
I just wanted to help those who have one and noticed these same issues.

For some reason I always thought the "crackle" came from the connection between the transmitter jack and my basses input jack. I'll have to try your fix. thanks

I thought the same thing too. I have been trying to find what the issue was for so long, and it just happened to do it on a gig when it seemed to work alright when I played lightly and didn't move, but it crackled and popped when I banged on my bass hard or danced around.
But who stands completely still on a gig? The purpose of a wireless is to allow you the freedom to move.
As soon as I prevented the antennae from moving, the problem disappeared.
Samson should make the antennae solid and stiff instead of flexible and the QC issues would go away.

Samson should make the antennae solid and stiff instead of flexible and the QC issues would go away. | Point 1: You should not be banging your bass, this is classed as devient behavior!
Point 2: You are a bass player and should not be dancing around. This too is devient behavoir. Bass players should be hiding behind the drummer!
Seriously though this is a good tip although I can't seem to see myself sticking velcro to any of my beautiful instruments. I do thank you 'cos I was considering upgrading my Samson series one wireless to an airline unit. The X2 was the other consideration. I'll go with the X2.

Paul | Well...doesn't everyone bang their bass?
I don't dance around all that much, but wireless sure makes it easy to interact with the crowd.
I made my bass and will be redoing my finish on it sometime this summer. But the glue on the velcro comes off the finish easy enough. It's just a small, square patch, and most who have said anything asked me what the extra "switch" was for, until they got a closer look and saw it was velcro.
I certainly don't think the Airline is a top of the line wireless, but it's not terribly expensive (especially used), and my guitar player gave me mine as a gift so I didn't want to have to buy one.

lowsound | Well, even though I'm not crazy on stage (or off it), it is nice to not trip or stand on my instrument cable anymore. Plus I can go out and check my sound and tone through the PA and tweak it to my liking.
And, of course when we have a good crowd and some fine ladies out there, it's nice to be more...hmmm, "involved".
I love using a wireless, even though I never thought I needed one.
