Audio CD Player Software for Practicing?

Sign in to disble this ad
I often have to learn new material that is on CD in standard audio format or in MP3 format. I can either use my portable CD/MP3 player or Windows Media Player (and the like) on my notebook computer, neither of which make it very easy to rewind short distances so that I can replay the short part I need to review over and over again. I would like a software player that would allow me to use the arrows (or any other pair of keys) on the keyboard to take me short distances backwards or forwards in the song while I'm trying to learn the parts. Just a short quick movement of my right hand to the keyboard, rather than grabbing for the mouse and manipulating it, would make it nice. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks

Great! Thanks a lot. I'll have to let you know how it works out.

i just tried a program called "riffster"

it seemed pretty cool
it allows you to adjust tempo, pitch, and you can set up multiple loops

Thanks for pointing this one out. I tried it last night and it would definitely work for me. With my setup (notebook computer and/or its sound card), I could only slow it down just a bit and still be able to hear pitch, etc. I know that was not even a consideration of mine, according to my original post, but now I see the kind of software available and I'm wondering if there's another program that may produce better audio for me on the slow down. I certainly won't mind paying for something that works well.

I'll check out Riffster when I have a chance.

there's also "The Amazing Slow Downer"

http://www.ronimusic.com/amsldowin.htm

but that costs money... $45

there is a trial download though... no clues on how long it runs for...

Riffster is $25 and the 30 Day trial download is from here:

Amazing Slow Downer works very well and produces acceptable audio at the slower speeds (at least on my work PC). It even utilizes the arrow key control which I originally posted as a desired function. There are a couple of nice functions on this (eq and stereo pan) to help boost/isolate the bass part.

The Riffster 'Try it out' button provides an expired (09/2007) trial version so I haven't been able to try it.

Thanks a lot, guys.
