Audiobox stopped working. DO I need a DI for my Active Modulus?

Hello,
I have had a presonus audiobox for a few months now and I just loved it. I played various basses through it and, more recently, my Modulus Flea bass. I Liked how crisp everything sounded and it worked well most of the time. Then all of a sudden the first input channel stopped working, so I switched to the Channel 2 input on the front.
I ended up reading that Line Level should not be plugged into either of those inputs (the only inputs) So now I do not know if continuing to play in the 2nd will eventually overload and do what it did to the 1st channel.

How am I suppose to play my bass through to my laptop? I loved this USB ease of the Audiobox. Am I suppose to do something special because my bass is active...Do I need to buy DI box and run that to the audiobox or should I buy a firebox by presonus (which has line inputs in the back)?
