I'm just curious; has anyone used their own picture for their Avatar? I'm considering becoming a supporting member in the near future. I see lots of really creative and interesting Avatars, but what are your thoughts on using your own picture?

Joe

Not on this site, but on others...

Never had a problem, but I'm lucky that I look weird enough in real life that I compare to the photoshop avatars others use.

I've had my picture in my avatar several times. My current avatar is something I made in Disney World several years ago, where the machine takes your picture and puts your features on a monkey or some other animal.

Here they are, for posterity...

I'm sure you're seen Embellisher's, Pacman's and Toasted's avatars. They use their own pics.

Dancehallclasher and Peter McFerrin did the same. I also use my pic once in a while.

Frankly, you should follow your instincts and choose whether you want to use your own pic or not.

Wow, this thread is really an important topic, eh?

I had a picture of me playing my didgeridoo. Now I just have a picture a friend of mine took.

Most of the ones I've used are pictures of me, including the current one.

As Blackbird said, I am one that does use my picture. Although I do use something else occasionally.

I used my own picture once, but it scared too many people so I went back to the ol' Snakey McBiteface currently shown.
