Average turnaround time for Bayou Cables...?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just curious what everyone else's experience is. My last two purchases have taken right about a month for turnaround (29 days and, so far, 26 days and counting).

I guess I'm a bit ticked off because after my last purchase I offered to put up a hefty deposit on my next order to get "in the cue" while I figured out what I needed as components arrived. I was told then that he had his daughter helping him now and that turnaround times would be back within a week.

So, in the meantime, I've had to spend more money on temp cables while I'm waiting.

I appreciate a quality product, but I'd really rather be given realistic time frames than being treated like a mushroom....

I ordered tubes from him in the last few days and get them in like 2-3 days. Butch has also been good to me. I have never ordered any cables though.

The same thing happened to me, it took about a month, maybe more. I just sluffed it off really. I guess even with the extra help he is just swamped. Good and bad thing though. Wait it out though, the cables will come

Oh, I know they'll come, that's not my issue. I just hate spending extra money on temp cables I won't be using because of unrealistic promises. I was hoping to wire up my rack today, but no....

Was hoping to wire it up last week. And based on his promised expectations, the weekend before that.

When it comes to wiring I'm something of a neat-freak. I hate having the cords and cables dangling all over the place. Just in an irritable mood this morning, I guess....

Not at all... Im with you. I hate buying items that you would expect to be delivered in a timely manner and they aren't.

My worst experiences have been with Devi Ever and Barge Concepts. Devi took about 6 weeks to mail me out a $50 pedal I bought from ebay. When I asked her what was going on, quite politely too, she said 'give a sister a break'... How does 'no' sound. Send me the friggin item I won on Ebay already!! There was no mention of build times etc..

Barge Concepts just totally ignored me after they had received my money

Anyhoo, rant rant...

I ordered 2 wiring harnesses from him - separate transactions - and they both took about a week to get there.

I just got my cables in a few days ago after ordering them (a couple days short of) a month ago. Yeap, its annoying, a bummer, and disappointing. Not much else to say.

Were these recent purchases? As in, this year?

I wouldn't be so perturbed if he hadn't declined my deposit and promised a week's turnaround (or thereabouts). Probably wouldn't even be upset if the order confirmation had included a note that "your order may take up to a month or more to complete" rather than the week is says.

Venting. Sorry....

Been there, done that, with different eBay sellers. Some of them don't even bother to keep you up to date on what's going on.

I run a couple of eBay businesses and we make it a point to excel at communication. Nothing keeps a buyer happier than quick shipping and good communication, assuming the product is everything you promised it would be.

My previous order, earlier this year took just short of a month, so I figured the same thing on this order.

The email I got from Butch the other day said:

"I normally get 5-25 orders done a day, depending on size.
I have over 100 orders pending, and I am working 7 days a week trying to catch up.
Sorry for the delay."

I guess you TB guys like his stuff, huh?

I like his stuff, I'll admit, and I was going to have him do the cables for my pedalboard but wasn't looking forward to a month of waiting again so I went ahead and spent $360 on Planet Waves kits.

I just got mine a few days ago. I will admit I had to wait a little longer than I anticipated but when I opened the envelope they came in i was content with the extra wait. These are some solid cables. Great pricing and it was really cool to be able to "customize" my cables.

Do any of you guys use lavacable.com as an alternate, you can still get the Canare GS-6 for the same price.

Haven't yet. Have you? And if so, what sort of turnaround time do they have? I'd even be willing to spend a little more if it arrives when I need it.

Took me just over a month before mine shipped (few months ago). I will admit it soured me too.

I would've been absolutely satisfied with my transaction if that had been the projected wait time. The cables are of good quality and came as I ordered them.

One of my biggest pet peeves when doing business with anyone is accurate time estimates. That means you are open when your listed hours state, your appointment times are accurate, and your products ship in the timeframe you state.

If you are not going to ship my items in a week, don't advertize as doing so. I want accurate times, not promises of fast ones.

I was considering having to waste money and time buying some interim cables as well, but was able to get by until mine finally showed up.

I would consider purchasing again because I like to support small businesses and I enjoy quality products, but as it is I will definitely not be making any orders for products I need within several weeks.

I've been seeing his name all over the place with people talking about ordering from him. I would guess he is totally over loaded with orders.
Being self employed I know the unpredictability of time spent on custom projects and therefor didn't mind the month wait for my cables. Plus they are of totally kick ass quality and a great price.

prs, it's not so much the month's wait that's bugging me, it's being told it'll be a week and then having it take a month. But you're right, the quality is great.

I've been self employed my entire adult life as well (and have worked for UPS for the past twelve years for benefits), and I do like to support small companies, but I would appreciate more realistic completion times. From this thread I see that this is not an isolated incident but rather the norm, so why does he insist on saying it'll be a week?

I ordered a cable from Butch December 1 of last year and got it sometime around mid January. It is a great cable for a good price. While waiting I bought a soldering iron to fix one of my old cables to get by, so it turned it into an opportunity to learn something new. I don't think my experience is a good indicator because it was over the holidays and Butch told me there was no black GS-6 left in the US it was on backorder.

Yeah I hear ya. I emailed him before making my order and he let me know it would be a little longer than average. I build or remodel custom stuff and have been in a place where I think it will take a week and it takes 3 weeks several times so I guess I have a little more patience. When ordered from him a year ago his lead time was spot on. I think he might be having the growing pains of where a small business begins to be a medium-large one.

I went through that several years ago and wrestled with having to hire help or just stay small. In the end I hired one, then more as needed. The biggest worry is quality control, but with only a handful of employees it's pretty easy to maintain.
