Avoiding song theft

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys,
I have a question for the universe that I hope someone can help me with. I have come up with a tune on the bass that I really like but I feel like I have heard it somewhere before, but I don't know where. All my friends agree that they too feel like they have heard it somewhere, but can't remember what song it could be. Is there an easy way, like some software of some website that would tell me if I am stealing this tune on accident? For example maybe some software or website that I could put in the tabs or a recording of the melody that could check to see if someone else has done it. Or am I just stressing too much about it?

If I remember right, there was a software for the iPhone / iPod touch that did exactly that. You feed it some music and it would find the artist / song. Apparently, it is surprisingly succesfull.
Maybe there is a version for other platforms too, no idea (don't even remember the name of the app).

This is interesting. I never knew such a thing existed. However, you could just be like Coldplay and steal songs anyway saying that you're really not.

Okay, so I created an account with soundclick.com and even made a solo artist band cause I feel as though I will use this often. Thsnks for suggesting it. You can hear the melody in question at:

www.soundclick.com/lonecoyote

its the only sound file uploaded titled curious. I apologize for the poor sound quality. please tell me if you think this maybe accidentally stolen.

similarites are gonna happen as long as it doesn't sound like a total ripoff your alright. After playing Muse songs for a year straight almost I find myself making basslines that sound really familiar lol.
