I know I've posted something about this kid before (I searched for the old thread, but it must be too old, I can't find it). BUT, I don't remember posting the video.
His name is Matt Savage, he's 14 years old now, he's been playing piano and recording music since he was 7 or 8, and he's freakin amazing.
Here's a link to the web site, click on "visuals", then "videos". You can also check out the rest of the site, audio samples and CD's for sale etc. This kid is amazing.

There's a volume control at the bottom, make sure it's up. And he doesn't actually start playing the song until a full minute into the video, be patient, it's worth the wait.

Yeah, I was pretty blown away with the kid's talent too. I still haven't gotten any of his CD's, but I plan on doing so very soon.

Pretty sick player for 14 years old, eh?

Another young jazz piano talent to look out for is Eldar. 19 years old, his album is advertised and reviewed in Downbeat magazine -- very favourably, no less! I've heard some of his playing because his bass player, Marco Panascia, is a member who posts regularly on TBDB. Check out a clip here. I think only the first one has Eldar on it, but you may as well get the others -- Marco's a world class player.

You should check out his older stuff. He's been recording since he was like 8 years old and he was a great pianist even back then.
Also, I should mention that Matt Savage has autism, and autistic folks are often associated with being "savants". My mother was a nurse in a care home for autistic people and I've had a lot of exposure to them over the years. In general, they usually excel at one skill or another, I've seen some of her patients create incredible paintings/drawings too. This is by far the greatest example I've ever seen though, he's only a kid and he can play like a seasoned Jazzer.
There was also a special on the Discovery Channel about savants, they featured Matt Savage on it and showed a lot of video footage that's not so easy to find, that was really amazing. When he's just improvising/soloing, that's when he really shines. Keep an eye out for that special to come on again.

ok I am going out on a limb here, not to disparage anyone but let's use this album as an example of what happens when anyone can record. - this kid simply needs to incubate a while longer, get laid and maybe [not that I wsh it] but have a live experience of some sort - this is so, [pardon me] no I can't say it in this day and age, it is not mature how's that -I mean my thing I listen to a lot of music but for me to give it kudos I tpically compare it to what is out there -and if you have heard any single player in almost any high school this is run of the mill. Again not to be disparaging but let's keep it real here.

Any high school you say? OK, this kid's been writing music like this since he was 8 and he has a mental illness. Hardly the same thing.

I was reacting to 'freekin amazing', I had no idea he was autistic but I stand by what I said, not to criticize but to get some perspective on what kids are doin today. There are amazing young players - sorry I do not see the clips I watched as evidence of that. The fact this particluar kid has found music given his situation is fantastic.
