...Have a bass player do it!

First off it's been quite a while since I've visited TB..I missed this place!

Well I decided to suck it up and go back to drumming for the time being. We just can't find a good drummer! It's nearly impossible to get one out for an audition. When they show up that all want to wanker this double bass stuff that sounds like shoes in a dryer!

I started off as a drummer when I was young and swithced to bass about 5 years ago. I actually became an accomplished bass player and was complimented often for my playing. Funny thing is I started to play bass because we could never find a decent bass player. Well the lead guitarist is going to bass, he's a big handed fella with a nice Fender and MM5 that can play bass decently. I need to lay the groove down for him and teach him how to play the bass like a bass player and not like a guitard.... LOL! I think he will be fine. We are starting this new lineup now for next falls bar season for gigging in order to get the kinks worked out.

I'm really going to miss laying down the thunder with the bass! But I can still play, and being a bass player for 5 years will make me a much better drummer overall. Plus it was no fun to always play with these crappy drummers! That has to be the worst thing for a bass player. I could never lock in or get in a good groove with any of the drummers I played wiht the last 5 years.

So if you want it done right, you gotta do it yourself! Time to go back to the skins and lay down some sick grooves. Playing bass has turned me onto a lot of great music like Wheather Report, Marcus Miller, and good jazz and blues overall. I'm looking forward to trying my skills with some jazz drumming.

Be cool bass players!

So after all these years of enlarging your brain by playing bass, now you're gonna play drums? I hope the frontal lombotomy didn't hurt much.

Good luck. Drummers are always cool in my book. Without them, we wouldn't have any musician jokes.

I know exactly what you mean. I can only play as good as a drummer can. It makes it much easier to groove and have a tight sound when the drummer can groove and provide a tight beat with nice fills.

That must be depressing, you are only as good as your weakest link....LMAO

Drummers are drummers, not much too them, just a little mylar and plywood, and their happy. Not to mention the pizza delivery, and you don't have to tip them either.....LMAO

This is true. One thing I really hated was chasing the drummer around all gig long! And another thing, if the drummer is off the whole band is off. Nothing seems to sound right, everything is played a little differently. If your going to put all the time and money into being in a band..it has to be done right! You need that foundation. It's gotten to the point where the strongest people in the band are completely changing instruements just to build that foundation in the rythmn section. Also I think I will be a much better drummer because I understand music much better being a bass player. I tried to tell these drummers your drum kit is another instrument in the band..play the music with the drums! It's not just something to show off how fast you can do rolls, quads, and double bass fills. CARRY THE DARN TUNE! But the never seem to get it!

That's why I started playing bass, actually. It was hard to find a bass player, especially one that played what my band wanted. 9 years later, it's my primary instrument.

I feel ya.

Having a drummer that can't play in the pocket drives me insane.
