Bad Brains decision

I can only go to one show because of work situation. Should I go to Bad Brains dub, or Bad Brains punk? I'm a big fan of both.

I've seen both, and I gotta say the punk is way better of a show.

Punk. Hopefully, HR will be into it though because when he's not the show can be a real drag. Saw them once where he didn't move the entire show until the very last song - Pay to Cum - and it was at that point that he exploded and it was awesome. For one song.
When he's on they're amazing.

don't be a lightweight. Go for the heavy, heavy, groove-deep Bad Brains dub. Feel it!

I've seen them before. I've also seen HR's short lived reggae-ish act about 10 years back. But I and I Survival Dub's first 7 or so songs are some solid fat dub. I'm torn.

Got to see HR's reggae act at BB king's blues club, awesome show but the dude is plain weird, he was over the top mellow, we could barely hear him between songs, he would start talking about random stuff and introducing his band, it got to the point where the band members were clearly pissed at HR.
Is HR playing by himself or something?

No. This is bad brains. But they're performing their dub stuff.

Ok, just saw bad brains tour dates, I'm in a similar dilemma, steel pulse is playing this friday in Coachella about 110 miles from covina and next week in Solana Beach (around 80 to 90 miles) but it's on a thursday have to work early the next day.

I'd do the dub show only because the energy level of the punk show can be hit or miss. If HR's not feeling "energetic" you could be in for an ugly night. I saw them about a year ago at the HOB in Hollywood, and HR was awful and the show was a complete bummer.

If they dub out, who cares how bad HR is?

^^^This.

I first discovered Bad Brains in 1977...and completely by accident. I was 16, and a friend of mine who was 2 or 3 years older, had his driver's license, and hated hanging around his parents' suburban home, got this idea to drive into the big scarey city (NYC) to see live rock bands. He searched the Village Voice, saw a band called Noise R Us was playing at some bar called The Botany Talk House, called me up & said "This band has a funny name, let's go!"

So we go (first time I'd ever been in NYC without adult accompinament) we're sitting at the bar drinking stuff I'd never even heard of before ("Makers Mark? What the hell is that? Who cares, let's try it..."), and some band takes the stage and it's not Noise R Us, we'd apparently gotten the dates wrong.

It's the Bad Brains.

And they proceeded to completely, totally, 100% rip the top of our heads off. Mind-bogglingly cool show. I'd never seen anything like it, so much energy, so much jackhammer intensity, speed & precision coupled with muscle & primal, visceral impact. Coolest. SHow. Evah.

Fast forward maybe 5 years later, I'm living in Boston, I see that Bad Brains are going to play a local club, I tell all my friends and recount the above story about seeing them in '77, we all go down to Mr McNasty's (actually I think they'd changed the name of the club to Jumping Jack Flash by this point), Bad Brains get up on stage and

...what the...huh?!?!

Reggae?

And not just reggae, but (sorry Maki) bad reggae. Talk about Harshing Your Boner. It wasn't just awfully disappointing, it was awful.
