Hey all,
I played a club pretty close to home last night called Tinks. It's a pretty big club, has nationals fairly frequently (Reel Big Fish just this past Wed), etc. Well, maybe 45 minutes into the first set I was jumping around like the fool I am. Well, I jumped wrong, landed wrong, or whatever, but I severely hyperextended my right knee. Probably 5-600 people there, and here I am face planted on the stage essentially crying.
I needed to be carried off stage and taken to the hospital. I was in the ER for a few hours. X-rays show no broken bones, but the ER doctor was pretty sure I tore my cartilage and MCL. It's Sunday, so I'm stuck in the land of unknown until I get an MRI (hopefully tomorrow). I do know that I cannot put weight on my leg, it hurts like HELL when I move it, and it's roughly double the size of my good knee.
I'm very angry, upset, depressed, and sullen right now. I just started a new job not too long ago, and have very little sick time. Spring semester of grad school starts tomorrow, and one of my classes was my practicum, where I'm be interning in a high school one day a week. I NEED 100 direct therapy hours to complete the course. I'm only 3 courses away from my Masters, and this might delay my graduation by a full semester. As of right now, I have NO idea what I'm going to do. How I'm going to fulfill school requirements or bargain with work.
Sorry for the rant, but I needed to vent. I need to go lay down now.

Real world, you are probably looking at a soft cast for 6-8 weeks. You will be mobile to a point, but not athletic in any way. You will need to adapt quickly, and become accepting of some pain and discomfort for the next few weeks while it begins the healing process. Each day will be better than the last, so plan ahead, and give yourself a little more time to get around as you usually do. An extra 15 minutes to a half hour, should be sufficient , and don't get depressed, it's just one of those things. It should hold you back from your studies, or internship.
I went through a similar injury 10 years ago. I tore my ACL, MCL, and Patella Tendon in a hockey game.
Take it day by day, and remember to give it as much rest as you can. Follow the doctors orders to the letter, and you will recover quite nicely.
I wish you the best.

I can feel it and I'm so sorry to hear that. Relax and don't be depressed, man. As already said, follow the doctor's orders and don't worry about the time. You'll have plenty of it to continue where you left off as soon as you recover from this accident. Take care, man. |

As one who has had to recover from a bunch of things, including severe orthopedic injuries (open fracture of femur) plus severed patellar tendon and a torn meniscus, all's I can say is keep a positive attitude. What's done is done. Your life will slow down a bit, but you'll be back. I had a good surgeon in 1969, and the ones today are even better.

Sorry dude, it's an obsession of mine, in fact, got any video clips. I don't know, I find jumping around on stage goofy as it is, when someone turfs, gold.
Hope you get better quick though.
