Bands that aren't famous that should be(in your opinion)

Off the top of my head there's three that come to mind...

1) Paulson (great band out of NJ, they just got signed to Doghouse/Warner, I believe, but by no means famous, yet)

2) The Greyhounds (Blues/Funk group from Texas, great tunes, awesome groove)

3) Mofro (Blues/Funk from Florida, once again, great jams)

anyone else have input???

King's X is famous. They're big-time...

But they're underrated. Wonderful band, one of my main influences. Doug rips the bass hella-good and wails on the vocals.

King's X is HIGHLY underrated. Even thought they've been around for the better part of 20 years, they aren't famous like most of the crap bands being played on the radio these days. They are very critically acclaimed but then again so was one of my favorite shows "Arrested Development" and look what happened to it.

One of the best bands I've ever heard, extremely original, enjoyable music. They were from Cincinnati. But they broke up a few years ago, before I ever got to see them live.

Cat Empire.

They're quite successful here in Australia, but man, these guys are smoking!!! Went to a 3 hour gig they played and I literally didn't stop grooving for the entire time. Consumate musicians, grooves a mile thick and addictive, try-not-to-dance to this kind of music. Truly excellent live.

Span quit btw, although their music seemed really unoriginal and straight forward, they had a good sound

They're not together anymore, but I always thought the Libertines should've been more successful on the US radio than they were. Sure, they got played a bit on college radio and the odd alt-rock station here and there, but most people in the US didn't know about them. Yes, their failure had a lot to do with their own personal shortcomings, and they've now basically split into two separate bands. Still, since they broke around the same time as bands like the Strokes and White Stripes here in the US, I thought they would've been more successful.

dredg is an amazing band that dosnt get enough attention. great live as well, the drummer plays drums and keyboard at once...it is a wild thing to see.

the arcade fire is pretty cool too, although they are starting to get some attention.

I know. I can't help thinking they might have stuck it out had they achieved a bit more recognition. I did not feel they were unoriginal at all. I liked both their sound and writing a lot.

A band from Arkansas called Punkinhead, played here in Oklahoma quite a bit. Unfortunately they broke up after their 2nd album around 1997. Seriously funky, soulful stuff. They went through two bass players and both were awesome. They even had a trumpet player, and the keyboardist, drummer, and guitarist took turns singing lead. Very cool.

I figure I should give some props to the bands I played with on tour who deserve to be famous... but unfortunatly, this style will never make anyone famous:

Ocean: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=11250971
- Absolutely some of the slowest music I've ever heard. Unfortuantly, myspace doesn't have their 45 minute song, but by far some of the most brutal (while still sounding amazing) music ever. Epic, huge, totally. First time I saw them, I sat in front of the bassist (Ruben, funny cat) and had my guts rattled for an entire 45 minutes straight... unreal.

Deadbird: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=7407603
- Proof that good things do come out of Arkansas! Phenomenal, atmospheric while still rockin' hard. Super cool guys, it's funny, when the singer talks between songs, he's got the thickest southern accent, but he screams like a champ.

Orodruin: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=24785257
- Have an old school doom flava. A must listen for fans of Sabbath/Pentagram. Put on an amazing live show. The guitar player cracked me up, he was walking all over the stage like a demon... flashing horns, playing one handed guitar while saluting the gods of metal. True doomers that are clearly having a lot of fun doing what they do.

Raw Radar War: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=7608091
- Crust punks (yes it's a real genre, fast, sludgey punk/hardcore) who are clearly fans of pallindromes. Some of the best crust stuff I've heard. The bassist had a crazy collection of basses, including a really sweet ampeg bass (didn't know they made basses) and a bass that had an upright bass headstock/hollowbody. Totally cool. Heavy Heavy Heavy.

Agnosis: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=2158231

- Disbanded... but playing a reunion show pretty soon... don't know it's permanent. They got into a fight on stage last I saw them. Epic stuff, super slow... lots of harmonized guitars, strangely catchy despite their heaviness.

Sea of Bones: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=19049414

- Doom soundscapes... but like fast doom soundscapes... man, I don't know how to describe them. Total control of atmosphere. The bassist had the biggest rig... lots of Sunn and tube stuff. The building was shaking! Absolutely awesome.

Moonshine: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endid=28050221

- Ha, grossest band ever! I ended up next to one of the guitarist... dude hadn't showered in a month I swear. But want proof that girls can sing metal... listen. She doesn't sing all the time, but the female of the group sounds absolutely EVIL! Heavy southern fried riffage. Dig.

Palace in Thunderland: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendid=9702815

- Early Monster Magnet/Kansas/Iron Maiden/Jethro Tull/Hawkwind influenced space rock. Plus the singer played a theremin made out of a doll with a dildo... you can't argue that. Triiiiiiippy stuff with a bassist/drummer who can groovooooovooovoveeeeeee. Did I mention Trippy?! Very awesome, one of my favs from the tour.

Imogene: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...iendID=2297068

- TWO BASSISTS TWO BASSISTS TWO BASSISTS!! Now that I have your attention, they have two bassists. One is a very very solid groover, with some cool chops/solos, the other plays an 8 string (octaved) bass in a guitar sense through a guitar amp... lotsa wah. And an organ player who seems like he belongs in a jazz funk band. Damn... we played with these guys the same night as Palace in Thunderland... that was my favorite show, even though we didn't get a good response/turnout. I don't know... we were too evil for this crowd. Great Great band... poppy for sure... but the good kind.

- Village of Dead Roads: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm...endID=13273873

- I'm allowed to promo! I'm not in this band anymore, i was just helping friends out while touring. Had a blast, great experience, but I don't have the time that they require from a bassist. Epic Isis/Neurosisy doom but a bit more riffy. Sound huge live. I really came to appreciate the drummer's style, he influenced me to change some bass parts to lock in with the drummer a bit more. I do miss playing with them, but you know. They should be bigger, even if just in the doom scene. I was just a fan who got to play with them a few times.

Everyone has their own taste

But it was not like i disliked them.. It was just a bit to trendy for me.. like Animal Alpha an such

I like much more the mellow jazz things the singer does now though

-Fast Johhny Ricker & The Riders (Kansas City , Mizzouri) awesome blues rock band. They have a great groove set up by a funky bassist and drummer. The guitarist is like Stevie RAy and Hendrix in one. They mix great extended jam originals and some awesome covers. Their guitarist plays electric , slide on acoustic and even pedal steel type thing (played When the Levee Breaks on it)
- Rocco Deluca & The Burden, they were just on Rock Docs on vh1 and I was very impressed great grooves with drum , bass , and congas and the lead gtr player plays Dobro and its all awesome. definetly check them out
