Bands that broke up too early?

Sign in to disble this ad
listening to Bleach 03. and it bums me out and makes me all tingly happy at the same time. luckily i'm a big, soppy guy that can contain all of these emotions. and more!

what're the bands that make you want to punch a kitten in the face when you think about what they did BEFORE they broke up and where they could have gone?

if i wasn't sure it was a ploy to get out of their contract and get a better deal i'd be angry at System of a Down.

murrrrrrrr?

Depends on how you determine "too early."

For example, I saw SOAD in '01. They were absolutely fantastic. Saw 'em again in '05, and it wasn't even close. I've got no problem with their hiatus.

Toy Matinee. I wouldn't say "broke up" insofar as the leader, Kevin Gilbert killed himself (or so it is commonly understood/believed), but it is a CRYIN shame his band Toy Matinee did not and/or could not continue.

I'd agree with you on SOAD, but their last two albums did nothing for me. For me, they had already spent their artistic load.

Guns N' Roses is my entry. The Illusions marked a bold new direction, and after reading Slash's autobiography recently, I can see what caused the fall apart, but I really would've loved to see the whole team stay together and keep evolving and taking their rightful place in the rock pantheon.

While I'm here, I should also admit that Rob Zombie's solo work can't touch the stuff he did with the rest of White Zombie. His desire to have artistic control dumbed the band down significantly.

kinda awesome that there are so many different styles that people are referencing. good stuff.

Boxing Gandhis

One of the best of the LA funk big bands. Amazing groove after AMAZING groove, 4 different vocalists, all a-list strong, and brilliant, socially conscious lyrics.

Here is a link to their myspace page. http://www.myspace.com/boxinggandhis

Click that NOW, and hit play for the track: "If You Love Me Why Am I Dying".

The envelope bass tones are godlike, and the tune builds like a one mile freighter rolling down a BIG hill. The real fatty groove doesn't even start to kick in until the 1 minute mark!
While it may seem active, I don't think the band has released a recording in a decade. They prove the rule: never get involved in a band with a married couple.

My other vote would be Cro-Mags. I know Harley has kept the band alive in a bunch of different incarnations over the years, but nothing could top the raw power of a REAL Cro-Mags' show. They got pegged as skin heads/nazis because of their look and scary (for 1986) sounds, even though the band was actually led by Krishnas.

What a maa-a-a-aa--a-a-a--a-a--aallllllll-function!

Yeah that's right, I sited hard core, and LA club funk, in the same post. That's just how I roll.
