I'll agree that Patton is a bit of an arrogant prick but "lowest of the low" seems a bit rough.

Micky Thomas is phenomenal - how about his amazing vocals on "More Today Than Yesterday" - WOW. One of a handful of vocalists who deserved to make their living just by singing. JUST WOW.

Are you referring to the song by Spiral Starecase? If. so, Mickey was not in that band. The lead vocals were sung by Pat Upton.

Oh wow - yes - Spiral Starecase - that's NOT Micky! Thank you for the correction... I had wrongly been thinking that was Micky Thomas for years. Hard to magine two guys with that range... well, let me say then that Pat Upton had (has?) an amazing voice... and so does Micky!

Thank you for the correction!

King Crimson.

Fripp even trained a singer how to play bass at one point. But that aside there are multiple albums where the singer is the perfect guy for that particular song.

I'm not sure that bands like Faith No More or Dream Theater should count, since they made their mark after getting a new singer. Iron Maiden and Anthrax are a bit iffier.

I can definitely see how one could get confused. The booklet inside of my Best Of Rainbow CD has a "genealogy" chart of all of the band members and how they are related to other bands. Rainbow is connected to all kinds of bands, including (obviously) Deep Purple, (obviously) Black Sabbath, Uriah Heap, and KISS...and a bunch of other bands I can't think of right at the moment.

I guess that "7 Degrees of Kevin Bacon" isn't surprising though, considering Blackmore was the only constant member.

While I will agree that these bands didn't "suck" after their original singers left, they were never quite the same, or as good. Peter Cetera? No one on planet earth sings like that guy. And Bobby Kimball is one of the few male pop singers who can be mentioned in the same sentence with Mickey Thomas.

Their surrogates were good, but left a little to be desired IMHO.

I just watched a video of AC/DC's original lead singer singing "Highway to Hell" and he did a great job.

Bon Scott was the man.

Since you mentioned Mickey Thomas singing "Jane" here is a link to a video of my band's new lead singer doing Jane with his other band.

Early on, Chicago was known for having three lead singers, Peter Cetera, Terry Kath, and Robert Lamm. I don't know if that is the case today.

I don't know, but I do have an interesting anecdoate about one of the Temptations contemporaries. I saw The Diamonds back in '99. None of them are the original members. In fact, I don't think any of them were in The Diamonds whenever the group had a hit song. One of the vocalists was young enough to still have his natural hair color. They referred to The Diamonds in third person too, e.g., "Here's a song that The Diamonds had a hit with called The Stroll."
