Band's First Gig And Turning A Negative Into A Positive
 

I currently have two projects, a Bad Company Tribute and an original band. Last night, my Bad Company Tribute was set to play our first gig, opening for a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute that has been endorsed by members of Skynyrd. An hour before the show, the club’s sound man throws a fit because the owner of the club added two monitors to the stage. The sound guy ended up taking his mics and stands and leaving. So there we were faced with the problem of having a packed house and nobody to run sound. Luckily, our lead singer called a friend who came to the club, brought his mics, stands, cables, etc and set everything up fairly quickly. We started playing as soon as he had set the levels on each instrument and the vocals but we really didn’t get a full sound check. We ended up going on over an hour late and had to cut several songs from our set. The sound guy who showed up did an amazing job in a difficult situation. I had at least 50 people tell me that we sounded great. The fact that the original sound guy quit was actually better because given his negative attitude, we probably wouldn’t have sounded as good as we did had he run sound. The owner of the club is calling other clubs in the area to tell them what happened and to advise them to not hire the sound guy who walked out. All in all, we made the best of what could have been a bad situation.
