Bands with front(wo)men that are worse singers than other members of the band?

Watched an interview with Lou Barlow just now... In all of my Dinosaur Jr fanboiness I still think (or know) that Lou is a better singer than J. I also think Dave Grohl is a better singer than Kurt Cobain even though I love Nirvana way more than I love the Foo Fighters.

Anyway, what say you? Who got the front (wo)man job despite being the inferior singer?

i can think of several. a lot of times its because they have different skills. often times there is an amazing guitarist that cant pull the weight as a frontman. or the other singer isnt much of a singer, as is the case with most screamo bands.

atreyu. the drummer is a great singer. the singer is a bad singer and a bad screamer. the bassist is a great screamer. yet.. the guy in the middle gets a pay check.

emanuel. matt breen is a drug addict and a weak singer at best. his rhythm guitarist carried the vocals on the first album. he disappeared vocally on the second. no idea why.

alice in chains. lets face it.. jerry was the singer. layne was the frontman.

alexisonfire. another case of mediocre screamer/bad singer fronting a band with an incredibly talented singer on another instrument. dallas is one of the best singers ALIVE and he sings MAYBE 25% of the time. the other guitarist has a great voice for punk, and he sings almost never.

rancid. tim armstrong sounds like he either has no teeth or a mouth full of god knows what. meanwhile lars frederickson is over there playing power chords and being a great punk singer.

if anyone was familiar with the band DORK, they were the same way. only their singer left and the guitarist eventually took over.

old taking back sunday. fred > adam. enough said.

story of the year. phil sings only harmonies. hes a much better singer than dan. but dan is a frontman, a great screamer, a tolerable singer, and phil has a guitar to play. luckily, phil has his own band where he sings lead (wonderfully).

thats all ive got for now. im sure i could come up with more.

There are quite a few, Teddy Pendergrass was a drummer before they brought him out to sing in the Blue Notes.
