Bands that singers ruin...

How many bands can you think of where you hear the music and you get really into it, makes you want to look up tabs and start learning...

Then the singer fires up and it completely turns you off.

One example...

Periphery - Icarus Lives. Awesome intro to a tune, then the singer starts to cry into the microphone.

We do a bunch of Dream Theater covers (fortunately all but two of them are instrumentals) and I'd much rather hear our singer belt them out than James LaBrie. While LaBrie has excellent technique, I just can't stand the tone of his voice.

Periphery's new album rules. Spencer's singing is less whining and it's good pop style singing. I hear you though man, it's not a song I jam to in public! *hiding*

SO many. Everything that is characterized as power metal for me. I LOVE the music, can never stand the singer. Hammerfall is the best example.

Bring Me The Horizon. Musically they're all good players and know what they're doing, but the vocalist (if you can call him that) is a tw*t and atrocious.

For me, definitely Rage Against The Machine. To my ears, Audioslave was the solution for 100% of what I didn't like about Rage, and left everything I did like.

I know many will disagree.

I know some like the voice, but there are many of us who equate it to
fingernails on a chalkboard. In my top 5 most over-rated singers.

Not me...Axl is one of the most overrated singers of all time. He has one of the most annoying voices in rock.

Totally agree. Dude sounds like a spoiled preteen byotching about getting the wrong birthday present.

Edit: Also Axl, P Jam guy... you guys know this is gonna get shut down, right? I mean how can we be respectful about musicians/singers we ha- I mean don't care for..?

Totally misunderstood the topic. I thought this was going to be about cover bands and what tunes always sound bad.

For me its Blind Melon and Train. I never liked the music from either band and it was mainly due to the fact that I never warmed up to either singer. I dont even know their names! But my ears pretty much clamp shut when I hear their voices.
Out of the modern bands I was starting to feel that way about Staind until their latest album. I always thought Aaron Lewis came across as uber-whiny but the latest record gave me a new appreciation for what he can do when he chooses to.
