Let's see bands I don't like.... I'm going to take a lot of Flak for this but.. THE BEATLES. I cannot stand them. You know, the sad thing about it is. I originally never felt that way, my honest opinion is "Ehh, I don't dig 'em." BUT it seems that EVERYONE I've ever met has to tell me how wrong I am for not digging them and how I know nothing about music at all, the sad part is most of those people are usually the same people who only know the songs "Here comes the sun", and "Come Together." It's like people just go "Oh they're the most famous band of all time! Soo I must like them!" I'm sorry but I don't.. It would be a lot easier for me if people would just say "Ohh, I'm sorry you don't like them. Each to his own." Instead of constantly reminding me how I'm such a terrible person because they "Invented pop music" Yeah well good for them.. I don't like that either.. BUT HEY, WHATEVER NOT LIKE IT MAKES ME MAD OR ANYTHING!?

I think that rant is sufficient enough.

I for one love Springsteen. I appreciate the stories and characters he weaves, and the over the top epic grandiose-ness of the music, which is definitely rock (I love/hate Meatloaf in the exact same way), but flirts with orchestral bombastics and other types of genres like scatty jazz, or blues or folk...this is all in respect to his earlier works as I said before as I don't care for his Born in the USA and beyond stuff save for spurts of brilliance like "Girls in their Summer Clothes" and the like, but he must have been doing something right as a lot of artists echo his style (early John Cougar for instance) in the same way artists echo the Beatles or the Stones unabashedly...

And as for people flat out dismissing the Beatles, ok, which era? They got a lot accomplished in a LOT of different styles in their short existence...some work I admit I don't like either, such as the early straight-pop stuff (She Loves You/ Love Me Do, etc), but the latter stuff (Revolver - on) touched so often upon sheer brilliance I don't understand how it couldn't resonate on some level, be it songwriting, innovation, cultural meshing, but hey to each their own, I respect your opinion completely.

I'm guessing I'm one of the people you're referring to? It's not that I hate them or anything, I'm not saying they're terrible musicians or that they're not important. They are. I just don't dig 'em. My issue is that EVERYONE seems to pester me about it. Can't people just respect my opinion?

The list is just too long.

Fortunately there's sooo much music out there that I love, in fact I don't have the time to consume it all.

You know who I hate, Bach. Ewwww "I used the cello in an innovative way..." Bite me! Remember when Don Johnson made that song? I HATE IT! Oh yeah, The Chipmonks. Man every time my daughter plays them I could slap her, but I don't want to spend the night in jail. And what about the "Map" song on Dora the Explorer. Man, that M*ther F-er! It is so lyrically sparse. No talent! Oh yeah, Weird Al. His stuff is stupid (well, not all of it). And Bell Choirs...Don't get me started on them!

I like a lot of stuff he did, especially Nebraska and the Pete Seeger thing. But I don't like all of it, like, I don't like Born in the USA, it's too macho for me, I like more poetic stuff than the R'N'R power drive...

I wasn't referring to anyone directly, no. and I for one totally respect your opinion, as I stated.

I remember one day sitting in class at Berklee College of Music, and my teacher made a joke in which Yoko One was the punch line...

My response was:
"Hey, I like Yoko Ono!"

My teachers responce:
"[JoZac21], you would..."

But seriously...

Yoko Ono is a very interesting artist, whether you like her or not.

No not really. There are a lot more bands that I do like but most of them are from the 1960s through the 90s.

so if the beatles were an obscure indie rock band that never made it big then they'd be good?
I get it, tho, I get it. Who would hate Nickelback if they were a struggling local rock band not making any money?

I kind of resent Phish and Primus because there's so much musical skill there but in the service of an awful lot of silly songs.
The lead singer in the cover band I play in doesn't like the doors or pink floyd and it took me nearly a year to realize it cuz he's just Too Freakin' Happy! Can't appreciate the darkness like us depressed folks.

I never could get into the Eagles much, although I think I may like them a little more these days. Bruce Springsteen I appreciate, but could never get way into. And The Who, I know they're rock legends and all and I appreciate them, but they just never really did it for me.

I tell you what makes me shiver with spastic fits of hatred as I scramble for the remote.

Those Sandals vacation commercials with those godawful re-makes of that already horrid Dirty Dancing song.

hahahah!

I was gonna come in here and say something to the tune of "Bach is so totally overrated!" but I couldn't think of a funny way to put it. Your entire post was hilarious. I'm actually laughing, and not chuckling as most of the stuff on the interwebz makes me do

Some bands and solo acts to get me started

Nirvana
Radiohead
Rolling Stones from 1970 to the present
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Bob Dylan
I only like a few Springsteen songs but I want to know who died and made him “Boss”? Most Springsteen songs either sound like out of tune dirges or as if he is singing in pain.
Black Eyed Peas (and Will I. Am and Fergie solo)
Kid Rock
Trace Adkins
Toby Keith
Willie Nelson
Sheryl Crow (her out of tune vocals are doctored in the studio and she is way off live)
No Doubt (I don’t mind the band but Gwen can’t sing on key)
Rap
Cookie Monster Metal screaming vocals
Kesha
Rhianna
The Sex Pistols
