Now that I know it is national I really hate it.

Good thread. I thought I was the only one who didn't get Springsteen. Guess not

For me, the answer is "Too many." Only a small fraction of
popular bands can keep me entertained for a long evening
and wanting more. There is too much "me too" music (music
that is predictable and just like a hundred other forgetful tunes
you have heard) and too much "pentatonic drivel" (guitar
meandering that you can't remember one minute later). And
the lyrics...redundant, cliche, created with little or no effort.
Happened with me when I saw The Grateful Dead. Thought they were so boring. Also many warm up bands that had me saying "I'm as good as that guy." And I'm not that good.

KInda hard for me to single out a band for this (they all have something that shines). But as for SONGS, the two that will get me to stand up, walk across the room, and smash the radio (almost literally) when they come on are:

Me and Bobby McGee - JJ & Big Brother. I got burnt out on the windup and vocals way back when. Just can't listen to it, at ALL.
Cocaine - Eric Clapton (actually, I don't like a lot of EC's poppy stuff. Sounds ..... tedius).

On a positive note, for those that throw all post 1990 bands into their "stink" list, there are a lot of cool music out there if you give it a chance. And I didn't, until recently. I'll throw "Fitz and the Tantrums" out there as a neo soul band with some cool bass lines that warrant a considered listen before being considered avec les pire.

Cheers

Oh, and Dave Mathews Band. The 1990's called and said we can have'em. Dang.

Had that happen about a year ago. With my favorite band of all time, no less. Went to see Steely Dan at the Tower in Phil. I've seen every SD tour and Donald Fagen tour since they resumed in '92. This show was as hot as I have ever seen them play. However, it was basically a greatest hits show. NOTHING off any post 92 records. Nothing off Kamikariad, Morph the Cat, Everything Must Go, Circus Money, T.A. Nature. Nothing (as far as I remember). And based on the meatheads around me the crowd would not have liked it any other way. I didn't mind getting out a few tunes early.

BTW: Donald Fagen's most recent album is incredible.

Cheers

I am so with you on this one. I can't stand that song no matter who does it; but, especially the Janis Joplin version. In fact, I can't stand anything Janis Joplin sang on and I don't get her appeal at all. Mercedes Benz makes me want to poke holes in my ear drums.

If anybody wants to hear a singer with that style who can really deliver the goods, check out Stone the Crows with Maggie Bell on vocals and Jim Dewar (before the Robin Trower Band) on bass.

Korn and every other "Nu-Metal" band that's popped up since then (minus a few exceptions). Most the singers sound the same, most the songs sound the same, millions of people around the world love it - and I just don't care for it - especially, Korn... with a backwards "Я"... Them and Slipknot. *Rawr rawr rawr rawr rawr* w/spam power chords in drop tuning. I still don't care.

So, it's the musicians who don't get U2? I thought it was just me. The other 90% of the world's population seems to think they walk on water.

I admit they are good musicians but I do not care for their music.
Add Elvis to that list.
I prefer covers/remakes of Beatles songs to their own versions.

+1 Perfect perpsective - their management does a good job training them on how not to lose their fan base when they get old. But yes a representative of the working class - I think not.

He's on my list right there with Dave Mathews. Not sure how to classify their music but it's not something I'll listen to.

And as for people flat out dismissing the Beatles, ok, which era? They got a lot accomplished in a LOT of different styles in their short existence...some work I admit I don't like either, such as the early straight-pop stuff (She Loves You/ Love Me Do, etc), but the latter stuff (Revolver - on) touched so often upon sheer brilliance I don't understand how it couldn't resonate on some level, be it songwriting, innovation, cultural meshing, but hey to each their own, I respect your opinion completely.
I think the OP wanted you to say who you DON'T like. No defense necessary in this dialog.

Oh, yea I don't care for Bruce Springsteen. and how the hell did he get the name "the boss" anyway? I do like Clarence (RIP) and Little Steven - both awesome musicians.

I expect this thread to become a complete list of all bands that have ever existed, ending with discussions on the topic of "Dude, why don't you like my band?".

Personally, I don't "particularily like" most music I hear. A quick, unfinished list of bands that I don't like/would rather not listen to (but am consistantly exposed to):

Kiss
Coheed and Cambria
U2
Gotye
White Lies
Skrillex
Bon Jovi
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Steve Vai
Anthrax
Rainbow
Michael Jackson
Chris Cornell
Aerosmith
Slipknot
Abba
Manowar
Van Halen
White Lies
Coldplay
Björk
30 seconds to mars
Take That
Meat Loaf
Rod Stewart
Bon Iver
Ozzy
Phil Collins
Mansun
Lykke Li
R.E.M.
Elvis
Bing Crosby
Primal Scream
Faith No More
Kanye West
Rihanna
Lady Gaga
Nicki Minaj
Backyard Babies
Uriah Heep
Marilyn Manson
Avenged Sevenfold
Outkast
Scorpions
Nightwish
Bruno Mars
Wiz Khalifa
Alice Cooper
Nickelback
Creed
Sonata Arctica
Markus Krunegård
Villa Nah
The XX
... and the list goes on, and on, and on... and... on...

While I think good music can be found from all genres and most artists, I find most of my "not particularily likes" from
- "indie" & "singer-songwriters"
- hard rock
- screamo, hardcore etc.
- "pop" (most of the stuff that makes the charts nowadays)
- rap, hiphop etc.
- dubstep (the newer kind)
- power/melodic/symphonic metal

yea, I forgot all about Kiss.
They have been an embarrassment to rock and roll from day one. And I'm sure they laughed all the way to the bank...just goes to show there's something for everyone.

But the older I get the more I dig The Band ... Didn't care for them when they were current.

Bruce for me too
Also:

Bob Dylan( I just can't get past the voice )
Neil Young( Same as above )
AC/DC( I've played too many biker rallies )

However I suspect I probably will come to like Bob and Neil as I get older, just not right now.

It took me a looooong time to "get" Dylan. And any appreciation for his music and lyrics will almost never have anything to do with his voice.

I think Neil Young has moments of brilliance, but there sure is a lot of moodiness in between.
