Banjo suggestions?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had a weird drive to get a banjo lately. But, like the mandolin and uke, I don't plan on being too serious about it and just want a basic one that I can goof around on. Anyone have any suggestions for a 5-stringer that isn't expensive but isn't complete junk?

I don't play banjo, but I've been working on a documentary about Tony Pass and his block rims for the last few years. I think he likes Stellings but they are kind of expensive. Maybe try something like a Recording King or Deering?

You might find better information on the The Banjo Hangout Forum.

My banjo buddies like Deering, and they dream about pre-war Gibsons.

I used to play in a jam session with a bunch of them. It was fun to 1-5 Old Joe Clark, Rocky Top, etc. Banjo guys are always smiling and have good attitudes.
