Baritone strings on a normal scale guitar?

Sign in to disble this ad
Since stringing 34" scale basses BEAD is possible I was a little curious if it is possible to put baritone strings on regular electric guitar. Does anyone have any experience or reasons why this would or wouldnt work?

Thank you,
Sam

Should be fine- plenty of death metal bands tune down to B and even A with unmodified axes. Might require the nut being recut or a truss rod tweak (and resetting your whammny bar if you have one) but other than that there's no reason not to.

i use the bottom 4 strings from the d'addario chromes 7 string set on an ordinary ESP Viper for a super-low rythym guitar, tuned A-E-A-D-x-x

Forgive my ignorance, but how is that any different than taking a a tenor strung bass and tuning the top 3 strings up a whole step? I suppose the thickness of the strings, as well as distance from each other, would make it easier to play rhythm as opposed to bass. Interesting...

I gigged with baritone guage strings .17s, if I remember for years on a normal scale guitar. Once I got used to the higher tension, it played and sounded great.

The fact that it's an amazing axe and required no special setup helped; my Ibanez's neck didn't like baritone strings at all. Couldn't get it to play right.

well a tenor or piccolo bass and id still be thinking in a bass way

this is to think in a guitar way, with the top 2 strings removed so i dont waste time fannying about with fancy playing

cheers
