In reading several posts here I thought this might be neat. Seems many folks do not know the proper way to describe what they mean or do not know what a term/reference means.
You know, stuff like "Trust Rod" (it is Truss Rod btw....)
I do not want to sound like the worlds greatest authority on everything, far from it. But it occurs to me a lot of folks do not know what they are talking about and merely parrot what they hear. Also, there are a lot of new folks here daily who could benefit from such a thread....I think...
My latest is the term thin vs narrow when talking about necks. It would seem to me someone may not know the difference. Just read any thread where the term thin or narrow is used to describe a neck.
Thin is depth of neck or thickness of the wood measured from the fretboard to the bottom of the neck.
Width is if measured across the fretboard at any point. everyone talks about the Jazz width (1.5 inches) etc...and the width at the heel being 2.5 in on a standard fender type configuration.
It frosts my cookies when people are talking about how narrow a neck is and someone chimes in about their thin fast neck. Thin is not narrow and much like wine I feel many do not know what they are talking about. Most folks will tell you they like a dry, white wine. When you give them a dry, white wine they do not like it. They really mean they like some freaking sweet, kool aid of a wine.
Fine you like what you like, but know how to say what you like.
So whats got your goat today?
