Bass cabinet used as home stereo subwoofer?

Sign in to disble this ad
Has anyone used their bass cabinet for a home theater or music subwoofer to good result? I can buy a sub amp and figure a way to cable the cabinet to the amp. Is it worth it?

Using the bass cabinet as a home subwoofer should work fine. Haven't personally tried it.

(Using a subwoofer as a bass cab=no, and using a bass amp as an active subwoofer=no.)

Back in the seventies I conducted a lot of sound experiments. I remember aiming bass cabs into corners to supplement LF in my home stereo. Not exactly hi-fi, but it definitely beefed up the bottom end in the days of long playing records - before the advent of home stereo sub-woofers.

The small home stereo subs I've used usually have a built in crossover and inputs/outputs for both channels.

After I blew those up, I hooked up my 1x15 (EV gold) cab to the mono center channel line out through one side of 200rms stereo amp/15 band e.q. and it works fine to get some good low bass.

Hi.

If You belong into the group of people wo think a subwoofer reproduces low- and mid-bass, the answe is Yes. In that case You can beef up the low end with a bass cab.

Any "regular" bass cab won't be audible or stay toghether too long if true sub-bass frequencies are required.

When trying it out, make sure that You can at least reverse the phase of the "sub". otherwise you may be out of phase with the mains.
