Was Bass the first instrument you learned to play?

Well, how many other instruments did you learn, or attempt to learn, before settling on the bass? Do you consider bass your "primary" instrument?

I started on guitar in 1st grade
Picked up trombone in 5th grade band
Started piano in 5th grade too
Started on sax my sophomore year of HS
Became a bass player my junior year because we needed a bassist........AND THE LIGHTBULB CAME ON!
Started double bass as a HS junior
Started tuba as a HS senior

Bass is absolutely my main instrument, in fact I rarely touch any others anymore, other than occasionally noodling on a guitar.

Before I settle for bass, I primarily played classical acoustic guitar, which I'm thankful for seing that it helped me with my right hand technique.

No doubt........I took classical guitar lessons for several years, and it was definately helpful, especially where technique is concerned.

I played violin and flute before bass. Violin is probably why I gravitated to fretless.

Piano was my first instrument, when I was a little kid. Guitar later on and bass within a year of that. Bass is my "main" instrument, but I still love to play a lot of keyboards and guitar... and really anything I can get my hands on!

My first attempt was guitar at 10, but I don't count it, because I couldn't even make a G chord, due to my sausagelike fingers.

Learned drums in my Dad's church at 12 because we had no musicians.

Started on bass a few months later, because I wanted to play two instruments.

Over the years, I have gotten decent enough on guitar (still can't do barre chords) and drums to play live music. I can mess around a bit on piano and keyboards too, but wouldn't attempt that in front of people.

I am far away better on bass than any other instrument.

If you don't count "voice" as an instrument. (Elementary school always had music class. I dreaded it. Looking back, I regret not taking a larger part in it.)

It goes... alto recorder, xylophone, ukulele, classical guitar (IIRC), soprano clarinet... and here I now am... bass guitar.

Actually, looking back, I learned quite a few instruments. Too bad I don't remember how to play any of it.

i started out hitting pots and pans and various other kitchen-things with wooden spoons and such when i was very little, then piano when i was a little older, then bass when i turned... 12, i think. i've picked up many other instruments along the way... anything that can make a sound, y'know?

While I can't say I "dreaded" music class, I was never really comfortable singing. I wish I had developed more vocal skills as a kid, as I really don't have any singing skills to speak of.

Age 10, took piano lessons, but my heart wasn't into it.

Age 20, took piano/keyboard lessons again, my heart was in it.

(I've been in love with playing bass since 1985)

I'm no virtuoso at either one, but I've enjoyed playing both instruments live.

I was a clarinetist before I was anything else. Then I was a (GASP!) guitard, then I came to my bloody senses and picked up a bass.

Started out as a drummer for the school band in 3rd grade. Stuck with it up until I graduated High School. Freshman year of college is when I first started to noodle around on bass, but I've only been serious about it since senior year of college.
