Bass Idol

Hey guys

If they were to produce a TV show along the lines of American Idol for bassplayers, would you audition or want to be part of it?

What do you think would be the pros/cons of such an experience? I know it won't happen, but curious to see what you think.

Discuss.

the problem is that, the ones with good tempo are content to take a walk and back other good musicians (not verry entertaining to watch) the ones that are "good" to watch are usually wankers. NOT TRUE ALL THE TIME, JUST MOST OF IT

Total Self Indulgent Jerk Fest Idol

And think of the album....74 min of unbelivably fast scales triads arpeggios that cover 7 octaves, 16th note runs that last for 380 bars, throws in an eighth rest and does 32nds for the next 10 mins...

The end of the album doesn't fade it simply cuts off because the engineer couldn't get the freak to stop.

The album cover is a long-hair with a fingering posed left hand that spans 8 frets in position 1, thumb curved over for that 5 note chord.

A one string bass doesn't sound very useful (unless, maybe, you're playing punk). But I suppose twenty of them might be able to pull something off.

Do you think they could perhaps do an entire band style of Idol? Perhaps the first three weeks spent finding a drummer, then bass, then guitar, keys, then finally do the whole singer bit? Would that work in your opinion?

Don't kid youself, it might happen. Imagine the public, "Building their own Band"

I think it would be a disaster in the making...Imagine what that album would sound like...a freekin' musical war.

ugh yeah there probably wouldn't be very much chemistry. hired gun bands never seem to last as long as the ones where the members find eachother the old fashioned way.

by the way, i your your sig.

Bass Idol

I tend to disagree with a lot of the posts in this thread I'm afraid. I would like to think that bass idol would consist of solo bass players who have something to say playing orignal and inventive material. I would certainly enter, and I would select one of the solo pieces that I play on my youtube (www.youtube.com/alansanderson1) to perform. I hope that it is an idea that becomes reality in the immediate future!

I imagine people watching the commercials and going to the bathroom during the solos!
