First and foremost, I'm an old-school metal bassist with prog pretentions. Steve Harris, Geezer Butler and Geddy therefore have been the biggest influences on me so far: gallops, pentatonic fills, chords, a ton of treble, use of higher octaves and an abusive technique. All of this results in my No.1 bass - Fender P Deluxe with rounds and a Gotoh bridge.

But of late, I've been playing a lot of various styles for school productions, for friends' projects etc. which has meant I've kinda looked at players like Robbie Shakespeare, Bernie Edwards and Andy Fraser. These guys introduced me to a mellower style, hence my T-Bird now wears a set of flats.

I'm a prog bassist through and through, but I'm equally at home playing classic rock or R&B. I play much the same as a prog bassist would. I use a Fender Jaguar with whatever decent roundwounds I can afford to put on it, that is soon to be modded heavily, in addition to the BadAss II I already have on it. I'd LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to have a Rickenbacker 4003 and an SVT, but I make do with what I have.

Influences:
Geddy Lee
Chris Squire
John Entwistle
Jon Paul Jones
John Myung
Victor Wooten
Micheal Manring
And Jamerson

I try to find a balance between the styles.

It's the jazz guys, Paul Chambers and Ron Carter especially. My teacher was a student of The Judge so I got a lot of that too. People say my phrasing is just like Jaco's which means it's just like the Groovemaster's but I think a lot of that was developed independently (though I am a big JJ fan).

My biggest influences:
Jaco Pastorius
Victor Wooten

Those 2 right off the bat seem to have had the biggest effect on my playing. When I'm slapping, people say I sound like Wooten (although I never double-thumb, can't even do it right). And when I'm not slapping, they say I sound like Jaco.

Other than that:
Flea
Larry Graham
And just about every uncredited and unnamed motown/R&B bassist. That is probably my favorite style of bass playing.

As for my style. I lean towards funk and soul, which mixes surprisingly well in my funk/ska band. You combine Jaco-esque playing with heavy R&B influences, and you have one smooth-ass bassist.

Into Funk, R&B, old fusion, anything heavily groove oriented. Biggest influences: Chuck Rainey, James Jamerson, Gerald Jemott, Rocco Prestia, Larry Graham, Jaco, Stanley Clarke Willy Weeks. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.
