|  | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2009 Location: Deep East Texas Piney Woods | | | In our band the bass plays on the vocalist's right hand side so they can hear the beat. We only have a drum on the larger (paying) gigs. The lead guitar is also on the vocalist's right hand side.
Yes the rhythm guitar plays on the opposite side of the bass. When we have the drums - the drum is on the back row in the middle between the bass and rhythm guitar.
When we have the pedal steel with us the pedal steel, playing echo melody, is on the vocalist's right hand side with the lead guitar. They share lead breaks. With this mix the bass moves to the left hand side of the vocalists. Rhythm guitar moves to the back row with the drums.
Placement revolves around letting the vocalists hear the beat. We drag out the floor monitors only on the "big" gigs.

I prefer the Guitard to be on my left (assuming he's right handed) - so I can eyeball his left hand in case I need to see the chords :-).
I prefer the Keyboard Player to my right so I can eyball his Left hand and/or read his chart for the same reason.!!.
