Bass: Male or female?

Just a discussion of what gender you'd think a bass would be. My contribution - Low pitch voice and tall compared to a guitar's high pitch squeal and short neck. My basses are male. What about yours?

My wife has been me a decade. She's made out of wood and bits of metal and plastic.

lol... I've had the same discussion with people. Depends on the bass for me. I've got a couple of male basses (MIM Fender Jazz 4, Modulus Quantum 5), but my newest three are female... Meet Persephone, Angel and Sunset!

Angel

Sunset

For me, it all depends on the bass. Some have female characteristics, while others have more manly characteristics.

Some seem to say..."play me softly" while other say... "play me like I owe you money".

If a boat can be a female I'm sure a bass can be a female. In fact I'm inclined to go the other way and calling my demure sexy bass a female (excuse the implicit sexism please) and my rock and roll electric guitar a male.

You try and approach a bass the same way every time, yet you get massively different results. Some times it works amazingly, some times you get bewildering results and have to give up... reminds me of most of my ex girlfriends, so I am going to say bass is a female.

Defo female. Play them with with feeling and she'll sing like a Psiren, take them for granted and she'll turn into a Screamin Harpy.
