i've been playing bass for ages bt never took lessons or learned anything necessary. can anyone direct me to a websitethat gives me pointers on setting up the EQ so various styles? punk, funk, slapping, and so on? i figure its about time i got prefessional

It's not that simple, different amps have different sounding Eq's, the same amp with the same eq can sound very different in two different rooms. The only thing that works, is : you start flat (all controls in the middle) and you adjust till you get the right sound for the band you are in depending on the room.

agree'd the EQ is your ears the knobs and dials on the amp are just your tools to produce it

remember every amp sounds different and every bass sounds different its all a case of dialling in to the sound you have in your head

also different venues require different EQ's

One tip that works for me at least 51% of the time is to use the EQ to *cut* and the volume to *boost*. For example, if I wanted a "brighter" sound, my first impulse is to turn up the treble, right? But these days, I am more likely to cut the bass and turn up the volume instead. It is a subtle difference, but I like it
