bass mount on rack?...

Sign in to disble this ad
ok, so i have this rack case http://www.thomann.de/ie/thon_rack_5_he_live.htm and i want to attach a bass mount to the side of it so i wont have to carry around a stand. a minor inconvenience but i have this http://www.musiccorner.co.uk/images/guh-a2s.jpg lying around so it wouldnt cost me anything.. but the question is would the rack be strong enough to support a bass or would it just break the wood. details on the rack in the first link but probably the most important thing would be its made from
7mm thick wood.

anyone done something like this diy?

Hi.

With wood screws no, with bolts and washers, yes.

The plywood Thon branded cases use isn't the most durable IME.

And please make sure that the padding is compatible with the finish, otherwise You might be in for a unpleasant surprise.

I'd use something detachable as the fork will catch everything.

Regards

yeh the mount already had bolts anyway.. yeh it was a cheap enough rack just needed something to keep people putting drinks ontop of my amp where a big vent is.. i got very paranoid

sorry but what do you mean by padding?

im not definately gonna do this anyway just wondering if theres more chance of it being usefull and working than a big failure causing my amp to split in two.

Hi.

The padding on the fork being compatible with the finish of Your bass. They aren't all, You know.

Don't get me wrong, Thomann cases are reasonably priced for the quality.

As for the drinks are concerned, You'll always make a better point with a kind word and a two by four than just a kind word .

I can't understand how people can be THAT stupid. Well once anyway...

i'm not sure mounting the hanger on the end will do anything to deter anyone from using your rack as a drink stand.

is it bandmates??? if so set them straight.

club patrons? tell them the stage is off limits - it's your gear, in your space, speak up and protect it. if that doesn't work ask the owner/manager for assistance.

regarding the hangers, i'm simply attaching one to a 2x4 base i'm fabricating to place on top of my rack (for placing a floor processor onto, the rack has a handle on top)

oh ive used the mount before and i never noticed anything wrong with the basses anyway, didnt think anyone would be stupid enough to make one that did that. silly silly peoples.

about the drinks,, only happened once so far i think but i had no rack, and my amp gk 1001 has its vent on the top of the amp... so any spillage would be horrible. it was a person from the crowd i knew came up to have a chat.

putting a hanger on the rack is just something id like to do not really to stop drinks just saying that made me want a rack in the first place.
