Bass Northwest Article in Bass Guitar Mag ...

I tried to do a cursory search on this before posting but didn't see anything. I apologize in advance if this duplicates an existing post or thread.

There is a great article on Bass Northwest in this month's issue of Bass Guitar Magazine (The one with John Entwistle on the cover.) It's on page 24.

The article is very complimentary and gives some great info on the shop and it's history. What's funny however, is that I think TB is mentioned in the article, if peripherally...

"He [co-owner, Evan Sheeley] also ponders the the recent trend of online forums with a shake of the head, saying, "They become an unhealthy obsession. If players would pick up the bass instead of the mouse, they would not only become better players, but they'd feel better spritually."

Don't get me wrong, the article doesn't have an "anti-internet" slant. As a matter of fact, BNW acknowledges that they sell more basses online than over the counter. I just thought that TB'ers would get a kick out of knowing that the industry appears to know that we're here.

I have to agree. Sometimes I find myself thinking "Why am I online? I could be playing."

The Internets are addictive.

My bandmates would agree.

BTW: I'm heading up to visit BassNW for the first time this weekend.

You'll have fun. It's night and day difference from what is available locally here in P-town.

My advice, though, is to leave your wallet at home, or else get a permission slip from your significant other in advance.

Even better, taking the wife with me. Already have permission to get out the wallet as long as it involves some kind of trade deal. She doesn't want my practice room to look like Bowlus' pix.

That's why I divorced "the bad lady" and picked this one instead.

Look at my post count and wonder why I'm always hitting wrong notes.

The first time I walked past Bass NW in Pioneer Square, I couldn't believe there was a whole store devoted to basses only. It was a little surreal at first.

Get there as early as you can so you can find some parking. It's KILLER. First time I went, it was a Saturday. They had a bunch of streets blocked off (Pioneer Square) and I kept going around in circles for 2 hours before finally going home. If you get there early enough, you can find some parking on the curb and then you can wander around.

i agree with the article somewhat. i do spend a little more time than i should (i should practice more). but in the same respect i know SO MUCH MORE about the instrument and the amplification. i think it's worth it. my technique, skill, knowledge, and overall satisfaction with the instrument has been enhanced. i like TB.

No doubt it's true sometimes but sometimes it isn't. In fact, when used as a resource it's time better spent than banging your head against a wall when you run into obstacles or spending more money than you need to becuase you're unaware of your options.

I wish the interweb was around like this when I started playing. I coulda been a contender.

First time I heard about BassNW was when I was about 15. I was visiting my grandparents and we went on this cheesy seattle underground tour.

Sometime during the tour the tourguide chick said something to the effect of, "Pardon the noise theres a store above us that sells only bass guitars."

So I ditched grandma.

Yeah, there's still a tour that always goes by the theater next door.

As for the main topic here, I love and always will love Bass NW. The staff are a tad dismissive of bass forums and stuff, but I think Evan articulated his outlook well. I was lucky enough to intern there for a few months as part of my senior projects and had a blast. Their service is great and I've gotten some of the best deals ever there.

Just back from BassNW

Yikes! I could spend ALL of my kids inheritance in there. Lucky to get out with a Schro 1210R and an EBS multi Comp. But a Rob Allen has gotten onto the top of my wish list.

Any, they were great to deal with. Jeremy helped me out. Even got Jeremy and Steve to autograph the article for me! Collectors item on Antique's Roadshow some day???

"The internets" can become an unhealthy obsession, but BassNW seems particularly adept at using "internets" nonetheless. Picked up my best bass ever there (a Zon), customer service was fantastic, enjoyed not having to pay sales tax, and they told it like it was for the "ax" of my choice [Edit - meaning that they fit me well to my ax of interest, and told it like it was about condition, etc., not that Zon is the best bass on planet for every player on planet - though some may choose to argue that case (grins)]. I wrote them a glowingly thankful email after arrival, and they said everyone on their staff would see it. :-) Currently on self-imposed internet-to-bass hiatus for the very reasons Evan cites. What am I doing posting? TB remains addictive.
