Is Bass Player Magazine out of business?

Sign in to disble this ad
Did I miss something? I renewed my subscription on 12/9 after letting it lapse for several months. In the automated return email I got it gave me an order number and that the next issue would start shipping 1/2/10. Nothing arrived. Sent them an email last week inquiring about it, giving my order number as reference. Got back another automated email almost immediately that said they would respond within 72 hours. Still nothing. Anyone else having trouble?

I haven't heard anything about them being out of business, but I had a similar thing happen when I renewed a lapsed subscription.

They took care of me though and sent be the back issue.

They had some down-sizing of staff recently. I don't know if they are going out of business. That would be hard to believe.

I renewed in the middle of December after a five or six month lapse, and I got nothing until last Thursday when they sent me the December issue with Andrew Gouche on the cover. I was surprised because if anything, I thought I might end up with two copies of the January issue, not an issue that is almost two months behind.

that mag sadly, is going down the tubes. It's become a bulletin, not a magazine, it's so thin.

BP was at NAMM with comp copies of the latest issue.

I decided to let my subscription lapse after their "review" of a power cord.

+1

I will say that I had a big gap once when I renewed. Customer service seems to have never been the strong suit there.

I recieved a free 1 year subscription when I purchased my Markbass amp at CG...Unfortunately I've only gotten 5 or 6 issues and haven't gotten a new one in at least 2 months.

My subscription ran out last fall and I didn't renew it. The magazine has about half as many pages as it did when I first started getting it back in 2000 and most of those pages are ads. I can get way more info for free either here on TB or other online sources!

I just bought February's issue at a local newstand (the feature is the Bassists of Michael Jackson), so the problem is probably their home mail delivery service (I bought January's issue last month). I agree with the others that it has gone downhill, but there is not much else out there to read so I still buy it now and then.

I've had some trouble with their fulfillment company (I believe they out-source the handling of the actual mailing) that took e-mails to Jonathan Herra the editor to resolve.

The sad thing is that neither of the local music stores or even the Barnes and Noble carry it anymore.

I stopped my subscription in the late nineties or early 2000s. It seemed to have more ad pages than content pages. Now if there is a story that I want I'll just purchase that issue.

I received my feb issue 3 days ago (I live in Italy).
But yes, it has the size of a comics book and half of the pages are ads.
I think economical crisis touched it as everithing else.

No kidding. Once my subscription runs out, it's staying out. Unless they do something quick to radically change the mag.

Whatever your concerns are about the magazine, it always takes awhile to get your subscription started. They say it takes 2 to three months to get you into the cycle, at which point you'll receive all your back issues and get them at the regular time monthly.

I already let mine subscription lapse anyway due to the lack of anything useful.

I let my subscription expire. I think my last one was like 50 pages, half of which was ads.

I have noticed ALOT of proofreading errors lately. like blatant omissions of works, along with putting the wrong pics with descriptions, like saying joe osborn used a jazz bass, and having a kubicki pictured. another big one was in the michael jackson issue in one of the bass reviews where it said the width of neck was 1 5/8" at HEEL and 2 1/2" at the NUT.

That being said though, I do still enjoy reading it nonetheless and would be quite disappointed if they were to fold
