I am a sax player and bass learner. Trust me, been in a lot of playing conditions, especially with orcherstra players. It seems that string players like violins and others are more OCD. BUT we all seem to be OCD so I have to answer that no more than other musicians.

For me, it depends on the band. When I was playing in a top 40 band years ago, the songs didn't have to be perfect. Now playing in my second Allman Bros. tribute band, we're all OCD, I would say.
Thanks for the big laughs in many of these posts, by the way.

Though I just now voted in this poll, I've been compulsively obsessed with the question since first seeing it.

about my strings , i change every three months or so and before gigs on the main axes I use. CANNOT stand strings that sound even remotely dead on any of my basses. i give our guitar player gears too when theirs sound dead , I even went as far as to buy spare strings in each guys gauges to have on hand if they sound dead

I'm just as OCD with my strings. My main basses get changed the most. Rounds every 3 weeks and flats every other practice.

it is a bit spendy , but I am not one to cheap out and boil strings or anything like that , keep your tools in good shape and they will last you for a lifetime , neglect or cheap out, they wont last long at all
