Bass Solo Pieces?

Sign in to disble this ad
I found out today that as part of our year 11 music program that we have to enter the interhouse eistedfod.

So I was wonder what are two good pieces that I could perform, besides the obvious Jaco ones

the main reason is last time, the other bass player played the only two solo songs that I new at that time
and I think the Eistedfodd is not for a while yet so I have time to learn.

so any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advanced,

Josh

P.S Yeah if this is in the wrong place just move it

How about some Manring tunes? Monkey Businessman is really cool and you don't even need detuners.

it depends on whether you can use a backing track but have a look at the the Rockschool grades...they offer 6 performance peices which allow you to show groove, soloing and accompaniment together...

Also how about playing one of the peices from the Bach Cello Suites...to impress the classical people?

Get the Charlie Parker Omnibook. His solos transposed for bass. A lot to work with there.

Your teacher is of course completely wrong.

The song is called "Dune Tune" and is by Level 42 (although of course Mark King wrote it). It's from their debut album (also called Level 42). It's originally by Stanely Clarke, although the intro section does sound a lot like part of "School Days" by Stanley. Mark was a massive Stan fan in those days, just like Stan but with more chops at times! The solo from "Foundation and Empire" was obviously influenced by Stanley's soloing.

You could always check out "Viridian" by Between the Buried and Me. One of my favourite bass solos in recent memory.

I'm not sure about sheet music, but you can get a Powertab version from Ultimate Guitar for free.
