| When I had a rig that was tall enough I tied a loop of window chord through the handle on the amp that was just long enough to slip over the headstock of my bass when it was standing on the ground - just slip the loop over the machine heads and let go - trust me it works!!. I got this idea from a comedy act who were on the UK cabaret circuit a few years ago - I can't remember but it was either the Rockin' Berries or the New Vaudevillle Band (or was it the Barron Knights?):-)
With a combo, or a rig that's shorter than my Bass, I use a gadget called a JakStand (see the pic) that I got mail order from an ad I saw in Guitar Player many years ago - and I've never seen another one since:
