Bass Storage Solutions?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey folks,

I am doing some home rennovations (combining 2 apartments) and my wife has conceeded to my building a studio/bass room/office out of the old kitchen. It is a small room by non NYC standards-- 8.5X9 feet-- so I need to use space wisely and thought I would use one wall to store my basses.

The architect needs measurements for built ins, which made me wonder-- does anyone out there know of a company or product other than 7 bass music standsw that lets you store guitars/basses upright and sideways??? IS there a company that does this for basses or guitars, just like there are all these "custome closet" companies that will build something for you out of components?

Thanks.

I use Rockstand, instrument stands for the recording room at the drummer's place, and I use the "coffin locker" for bass; it stores three basses.

Thanks. I did consider the rockstand as it is a lot of storage bang for the buck. I was wondering if ther eis anything more heavy duty and industrial stranght, you made of wood and everything. Trying to avoid having things custom built if i can help it but need to go pro grade.

I'd get a carpenter / cabinetmaker to build something like I have planned for when I move back to my home and need to safely store a couple of dozen instruments. Basically like a rockstand, but built into a cupboard with the bottom rails and neck support spiggots/rail out of hardwood with a suitable soft covering. Mine will be two levels high, so it fits in the existing cupboard space, and so I can put a lock on the doors on it to keep out univited hands from touching them.

A similar thing with a sturdy open frame wouldn't be expensive, and may even be a DIY possibility if you're a bit handy.

ive seen some guys around here that had some made, or made them themselves, im sorry i dont remember their names at the moment but if they see this they should post some pics of the stands they built, very good, and also damn good for saving space.

well, the coffin locker is made of wood. I'm not a carpenter, so perhaps your opinion of the coffin locker is different from mine. But I like it, it's made of wood, sits upright, hold's three basses (standard and short scale, should accomodate most body shapes and headstocks, if they're not too exotic). It's a production model, but will still cost as much as $150 +

I think that might fit the bill for you, although, the coffin aesthetics may not be to your taste, of which, I completely understand. It's just the product that i know of/own, and which is why i recommend it.

The quality and look are fine, I should have said so. The issue here is max bass storage.

I would like to store as many as possible in a 6.5 foot wide by 3 foot deep by 8'2" high space, so buying multiple multiple smaller units will end up in wasted space and not get me there. I am thinking perhaps of keeping the instruments in the cases, which would lose space width-wise, but would give me some flexibility in terms of minimizing the need for built ins. A couple of shelves with raised edges may even do the trick.

From what folks seem to be saying custom is probably the way to go. Would love to happen upon some pics of what other TBers have built.
