I don't see a sticky on this. We aught to write store reviews. So heres a starter
London UK
I went looking for five string frettless. My choises were TRB1005F versus ..... anything else.
2 store shone.
The Bass Centre, Denmark St London.
Just basses, which is handy in an area of London which must contain 20 stores in a 1/4 mile radius. Nice range. In fact its difficult to move. There's no problem with trying instruments out. There are real amps and a stool to sit on, but you do need to dodge the traffic. The staff didn't hastle me but on the other hand it was early in the morning and they were more interested in listening to the radio! We didn't scrap over money because I hadn't reached that point yet.
Chapells of Bond street. London UK
Soon to be moving to larger premesis in er....... Goodge Street?
Its not dedicated but its bigger that the frontage suggests. The range is limited and so is the amp in the sealed tryout booth ( you need a spare stand ind there guys.) They are owned by Yamaha-Kemble. So they stock all that Yamaha gear. That's actually their strength, because while not dedecated or particularly hip they have an ace......... I previously called the head office to find out who actually stocked the bass I wanted to try out. They didn't know but they did have one in stock. They were willing to "lend" it to the shop. I could try it without obligation. I was also able to invite to staff to "do something about the price" It dropped like a stone because they didn't have 2 lots of overhead. Job done
Now what's your (good) story?
