Bass Strap Help

Sign in to disble this ad
I apologize in advance if this is in the wrong forum. I didn't know where else to put it, but anyways... I've been looking for a strap like the one John "JD" Deservio uses in BLS, but I can't find one. If anybody knows where I can get one, please let me know.

This is the closest production one I have ever seen:

The one in the pic looks custom made out of some industrial chain. Sometimes used to drive conveyors etc. You could always substitute some heavy truck timing chain (it's usually two rows like that although not usually quite as thick. Motorcycle primary drive chain would look cool too.

Just keep in mind that even that short length probably weighs around five pounds.

Time to hit the junkyard!

That looks quite like the drive chain drive in the hydromotors for a 900-series Bobcat.

I've replaced a few, and you don't need to pay a gazillion dollars for one from Melroe/Bobcat, since there are some really better D.I.D./Japanese chains available.

If you are serious, then try to get to a King Bearing facility to buy the chains you need in bulk from them.

You can find some finer-gauged chains that are wider (Link-Belt) or even some from a very old company - if they are still in business - Cloyes/SKF.

Timken or Rexnord are prolly good suppliers, but they package finished products that likely won't be long enough for what you want.

Try to find an industrial parts warehouse in your area - they will have catalogs of all this stuff and any good shoe repairman can make pretty much anything you want for the leather part.

All it takes is $$$.
