10/14/2010 -- Update ... As you may or may not know, I have posted Reid's equipment here in the classifieds, with help from JSK5String. I have sold some of the stuff but still have 3 basses, several amps, and other stuff to sell. I reduced all of my prices today. If you are at all interested, please check out my postings: Basses: Estate Sales - Basses

Hey, don't know if this the right place for this but I'll give it a shot.
Some of you may have known my husband -- Reid Webb -- from San Diego. He passed away December 2005 after 9 months battling pancreatic cancer. When I moved from San Diego I brought a large part of his gear with me. I have finally found the fortitude to go through everything and try to sell it. I have posted quite a few of the items on craigslist with mixed results.
I am kind of hoping to find a few bass players in the Denver/Boulder area (I live in Broomfield) that might help me identify a few of the items, evaluate my prices, and maybe hook me up with some dealers who would do well by me.
If you are such a person I would love to hear from you.
Thanks for your interest,
Karla Webb

| | | | mrpakerguy,
Thanks for your response.
I looked at possibly doing the upgraded membership so that I could post there. The problem is that I don't know what works, etc. I surely don't want to ship something and then find out there is a problem with the gear.

Good luck with your sales and sorry for your loss. The mb2 and both Lulls were competitively priced, buying a supporting membership and posting in the classifieds would almost guarantee their eventual sale. Technically, you're supposed to have a supporting membership to even discuss the value of your gear on the boards, just FYI.
Look up a local luthier/guitar tech (not guitar center) and have them check out all the gear, then you'll be able to guarantee it's in good condition when you sell it. The most reputable store here in SLC also sells on consignment.
You could also contact The Low End bass shop online, who will sell on consignment for you. They have an incredible used inventory where some of your guitars would definitely fit in. http://www.thelowend.net/thelowend/policies.html

I'm sorry for your loss.
Why don't you post some photos of the gear here in this thread, there are plenty of us over-obsessed gear-heads who would be happy to help you identify them, and a good deal of it can probably be identified through decent, clear photos.

I think you could expend a lot of effort working online and that you might be better to use TB to identify a good music store in Denver which could help estimate the value of instruments, and hopefully sell them on consignment for you.
I haven't worked with the Low End, but I see from their website that they're in Tennessee- seems like you'd get into a lot of extra cost for packaging and shipping to get instruments to them.

| | | | Thank you to kai_ski, gus1894, Ewo, Pilgrim, JSK5String and everyone else that has looked at my posting. You are some cool & sympathetic people.
My biggest concern with selling long distance is that I am not sure what works. That is the main reason I posted -- I was hoping to find someone who could come & check things out, make sure the basses are in tune, etc.
I spent a lot of time researching items before I listed my items on craigslist. Unfortunately, a lot of Reid's stuff is either vintage or obscure (Marleaux & Rob Allen basses) and I am not finding comparables. I sold his Nady wireless mics for $15 each and am pretty sure that I was too low -- I got A LOT of calls on them. But, couldn't find any comps on them.
Thanks, again,
Karla |

| | | | you should list what you have for sell, the tb moderators have a good heart and the tb members are very supportive for a tb bro, you can sure about that, if you must just upgrade your membership and you 'll find a good price for the items that you have to sell, if in doubt about the worth of them, just take a bunch of pics of each item put them in the feller type of sell,
sorry to hear about your loss

Sorry to hear of your loss. As to how the rules go, you unfortunately need to be a supporting member to sell, mention sales on other sites, or request value appraisals of your items. For what it's worth, the $20 membership is well worth it for selling, as there is a lot of activity in the TB classifieds and no fees like you incur through eBay. It would also be a good idea to follow through on your idea to find local bassists who can help appraise it for you if you do not wish to get a membership here. Also, you can search the Classifieds and eBay for similar items that have sold to see the prices they sold for. |

| | | | I was afraid of that. Sorry about the post, Bryan. |

| | | | Karla,
Like Brian said, the $20 membership could be the best $20 you can spend. Good, trustworthy bunch of blokes here on TB and I'm sure you'll get some great advice as well as help. So very sorry about your loss and best of luck! |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: Fort Collins, Colorado | | | Karla, you might consider getting together with a local vendor who is an Ebay consignment seller. Some UPS stores do this.
You don't want the hassle of packaging and shipping, and they can do that for you. Ebay has an advantage in that the auction process will help each item find its own price point, which Craigslist does not. Yes, you'll lose some income from the local vendor and Ebay fees, but you probably will come out much better than if you try to set a fixed price on Craigslist. Ebay also has the advantage of MUCH wider exposure than Craigslist, meaning that you have more buyers with deeper pockets.
You still will benefit from having great photos and accurate descriptions of each item.

| | | | The owner of guitardesires.com in Boulder contacted me to offer their services. They charge 20%. Anyone dealt with them? Does the percentage sound reasonable?
