Post Bassists And Statistics!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys

This is my first post(I hope I made this in the right board lol), although I've been a member for a while now. I am working on a project for my statistics class and I was hoping you guys could help me out by answering a few (simple) questions

1. How long have you been playing bass?
2. Are you a professional, amateur, or hobbyist?
3. How many hours a day do you practice?

I need 30 people to participate and I would really appreciate it if you guys would help me out!

thanks for your time

30 seems like an awfully small sample, no?

yeah i know but i cleared it with my teacher. 50 pieces of data is the requirement but she told my class that only 30 would be necessary for multiple questions. more than 30 would always be appreciated though

2)I don't understand the catagories. Whats the difference between Amateur on Hobbyist? I do one or two paying gigs a week, but it's not a significant part of my income - tick whatever box this fits in.
3)20mins (I've got two young children!)

30 could be a big enough survey to obtain usefull results. That's the whole point of stats - you collect the data you can, and then run the numbers. Part of what you calculate is if you've collected enough data for your results to have any real meaning. Check the small print on those TV ads where stuff is "clinically proven" to .... they've had to include lines like "based on a survey of 16 people" in the disclaimer text. They're spending millions on ad campagns but their claims are based on TINY samples.

Just to clarify, you would be considered a hobbyist if you only play for personal enjoyment rather than make a career out of playing.

Thanks a lot guys! Keep it coming!
