I wanted to put together a reasonably short list of classic basslines to make part of my regular practice, both for the technical practice as well as the tune itself. Please feel free to add to it. (sorry if I missed your favourite one!)

Night in tunisia
Footprints
Killer Joe
Got a match?
Fever
My baby just cares

Funk:
Good times
Somebody elses guy
Jungle Boogie
Sex machine
The Chicken
Funkin for Jamaica
Lots of Jamiroquai
Superstition

Pop/Rock:
Hit me with your rhythm stick
Walking on the moon
Another brick in the wall
Can't touch this

Good shouts all
Wanted to try to keep it to lines you can't busk, walk, play root notes etc. You never know when someone will shout "I want you back in F" (this has happened to me).
Keep em comin

Well, since few bassists are solo acts, the "must know" list is the same as a "must know" for any pro level musician in a band - from Victor Wooten to a working stiff on a cruise ship to Kurt Novaselic to Paul McCartney. Alot of those songs have already been listed. However, here's a few that were missed:

"Brick House" for sure!
12 Bar Blues
Some Roy Orbison
Boogie Oogie Oogie - I guarantee that even a contrabasss playre in the LA Philharmonic and that guy in Korn know how to play it!
Some Eagles
Alot of The Beatles

-AND -

"Happy Birthday" - GOTTA know it. The ladies always love it. Either version is OK.

So that's what this looks like in tab!!

Friday night, Orlando, Hard Rock Live. Standing at the rail, close enough to see the sweat bead up.
