Here are three of the best I've come across so far. Each has something going for them. My band Synchronicity IV is not quite ready for prime time yet (give us a few more weeks of practice), but I'm thinking we'll be able to give these guys a run for their money. In the meantime, these are some pretty damned good bands doing the Police Tribute thing. Enjoy! http://sonicfrog.net/?p=3787

I know they're Italian, but look at Nek's cover band: he's also Italian. Also, IMO, this guy was trying too hard to imitate Sting. Having a female vocalist was somewhat excessive and threw the vocals off balance on a few occasions. The music was nice, though.
The vocalist/singer for Synchronicity seemed to be having just a bit of trouble coordinating his bass with vocals but I liked the fact that he wasn't trying to imitate Sting's voice.
I liked Nek's band the best. From the video you provided, as well as some others I looked up on Youtube.
Eagerly awaiting some recordings from your band, Sonic

But what you really notice when comparing them, is how good a drummer Stuart Copeland is, even on the simplest songs he sound so much better than any cover band could hope to be!

First, his drum tuning. He always loved a much lighter / crisper sound than most drummers. Second, he HATED to practice! (Even more than I do!!!!!!) Half the time when he's playing, the stuff is coming from the top of his head. He had always said the hardest song he had to play was "Every Breath You Take" because it was so straight forward and he couldn't do what he does best.... go poly-rhythmically nuts! All the drummers in this contest are fine drummers, I would love to play with any one of them. But they sound a little too rehearsed.
PS. The Police are a very hard band to cover. Google Police tribute band and only ten or twelve separate bands exist that do this, and half of those that do show up are in Europe. Each player in the original group have such unique qualities, whether it's Sting's voice and syncopations, Andy's odd chord arrangements, or Stu's wildness, it is difficult to find players that can emulate this combination. For us, finding the drummer was the hardest part.

I have most of Stings range, except for that real high strong alto he used on Roxanne and So Lonely - of course, he no longer has it either (see 2008 reunion vid). I'm not sure if I sound "Just Like Him". but I perform "Message In A Bottle" and "Do Do Do" in other bands, and i get compliments.
