I caught Esperanza Spalding on ACL not long ago and not only can she lay down whatever she wants with such ease it's unreal, her whole band is just as good and they don't mind showing it. Phenomenal bass player leading a phenomenal band.

I would add Michael Steele and Tina Weymouth to that list.

I'm glad they had Suzi Quatro in the list. I would also add Tina Weymouth and Gail Ann Dorsey. Nikki Monninger deserves a spot too.
It's also surprising they left out Carol Kaye.

Dunno if it matters, but this is an article from 2011. Didn't notice it myself till it talked about Esperanza's "latest" album, Chamber Music Society.
