Beck's New Album

I love this man,

http://www.spin.com/articles/beck-re...um-sheet-music

This is seriously retro.

I like it what a super cool idea. At least for musicians anyway.

I started reading the article, but then I was attacked by Juggalos so I had to split.

I wonder will he be charging bands royalties for releasing the "covers" online

Beck coyly one-ups the vinyl-renaissance crowd

http://gawker.com/5933398/becks-new-...ener-must-play

I personally think this is awesome. It lends to the credo that music being a malleable artform, it gives in to whomever is interpreting it on their own terms... well played Beck. I can't wait for the inevitable surge in multi-genre recordings. I will be making some myself.

i saw this on facebook this morning and find it hilarious because anyone that's been to a punk or hardcore show in the past 15 years (possibly more, this is how long I've been going) knows vinyl never went away so it cant really have a resurgence.

Of course...see the Vinyl Spinners Club thread. We know.

I just thought it very clever.

Oh, and oops. I realize this is semi-music-related (but moreso Artist news)...should this be moved to Misc? I appreciate your consideration, Mods.

Yes. I see it. Perhaps a merge then? I will flag and suggest.

I think this is very cool. I need to really get into proper music notation reading...this will be fun! I too would LOVE to hear people's interpretations of this work...I hope there is a fan-recording site.

It sounds very pretentious to me.

I like a couple of Beck's tunes, but I never got why he was always heralded as some sort of musical genius. Just IMHO.

Pretentious it may be, but I don't see anything wrong with this even if it is. You're still getting something, and imo, getting much more out of it, if you ask me it IS genius. I see a lot of value in this past the novelty or media-mention it's gotten so far. YMMV. It's been 5 years since his last album of his own material. Can you think of a better, more novel way of promoting a new project? You know full well a proper physical album will follow on its heels, it's inevitable...but hey, I'm into creative marketing. And that is what this is. Would you rather a Beck porn tape scandal?

Submit your versions of the tunes quick before Beck does !

Maybe it'll make it to the inevitable album as a hidden track , like , the B-side.

Depends. Who's the other person (or people) involved?

One thing he could do marketing wise is to have bands submit recordings of the music. Have a method to choose the best of each track. Pay a set fee to those who are chosen. He can add his vocals over the top, and release an album that way. So many people would eat that up.

Exactly. I like yer thinking! With thinking like this...I dunno...maybe it would stray from "pretentious" to.....downright awesome?
