I personally think this is awesome. It lends to the credo that music being a malleable artform, it gives in to whomever is interpreting it on their own terms... well played Beck. I can't wait for the inevitable surge in multi-genre recordings. I will be making some myself.

I see a lot of value in this past the novelty or media-mention it's gotten so far. YMMV. It's been 5 years since his last album of his own material. Can you think of a better, more novel way of promoting a new project? You know full well a proper physical album will follow on its heels, it's inevitable...but hey, I'm into creative marketing. And that is what this is. Would you rather a Beck porn tape scandal?

Have a method to choose the best of each track. Pay a set fee to those who are chosen. He can add his vocals over the top, and release an album that way. So many people would eat that up. |
