I did play for a few years when I was a teen, up until college, when I made a choice and it may have been the wrong one, who knows.
I had other hobbies, including a competitive sport, I had to concentrate on my studies, I had to start out in life, I had no money.
Then I started a career, got married, had children. Had a bit more money but little time.
Then faster than I thought it would happen, I turned 40. Wow, I thought, how did that happen? Sure the kids showed up, first babies, now 10 year old (they're twins, by the way).
I love a challenge, and I am stubborn. Like, really stubborn. I needed to take bass again. I knew it would be hard. But rewarding.
So one year later, I have made progress and can start playing somewhat ok, but I still need to work on it.
I've met many friends, both online and in real life, since I joined not one but two bands.
I had my first gig ever last Saturday (this was in another thread).
I can learn the bass line from pretty much any popular song, which is cool, but learning songs is not completely where I want to be.
I want to sound good, and groove, like really groove. Not just execute the notes with the right timing and a good tone. I want to groove, baby.
So here is to another year...
I almost forgot: thank you very much, people from Talkbass.com. You've been a great source of information, advice and encouragement.
