The BEST band that never made it to the R&R hall of fame.

Sign in to disble this ad
Can anyone explain to me WHY Rush has never made it to the Rock and Roll hall of fame?

Three Reasons why they should be: Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart.

More Reasons: listen to pretty much ALL of their albums.

Narrow it down even further: Most EVERY ONE of their songs

So, anybody?

because not everyone shares the same passion for rush as you do. not everyone enjoys thier songs. it seems simple, but i think this is the answer. music is so subjective saying someone is the BEST band is just not possible.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not run by musicians. That's a big part of it.
Acts are inducted based on how much they sell, and how famous they are.
That said, Rush is a fairly big act, and many think they're not in there because the R&RHoF doesn't like Prog bands.

Well, Pink Floyd has been in since 1996, and Genesis got in last year, so the HoF not liking prog bands is unfounded. And looking at the list of acts inducted into the HoF it looks like most of Rush's contemporaries, such as Aerosmith, Queen, AC/DC, The Police, and ZZ Top to name a few, are in while Rush, who compare very well to these bands, are out. Just my opinion, but I think Jann Wenner simply doesn't like Rush, and since he runs the HoF he calls the shots.

This has the potential to be a really long thread. Keep 'em coming, folks!

True but there are thousands upon thousands the do love Rush and they are the 3rd best selling band of all time. Also, there are plenty of acts in the HOF that many dont like...hell I cant stand 99% of the garbage from the acts that are inducted so to each his own I guess.

Its not really that big of a deal really, its like Jethro Tull winning best heavy metal band over Metallica...its run by idiots with their own agendas (like how much money they can get from Yoko Ono)

I am not a fan of Rush at all. They are all great musicians but they are not for me. That said, I think the should be in. I see no reason why Alice Cooper isn't in.

Apart from possibly acknowledging someone's contribution to music, I dont really care much for this "Hall of Fame" thing. It's the same with the "Ten best guitarists/bassists of all time" polls. Totally futile exercise IMO, because everyone knows someone who deserves to be included.

Don't get me started on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! How they can leave out a popular and influential band like Rush who ranks third in all time consecutive studio gold and platinum albums is beyond me! There are also many other rock bands who should be in the HOF and are not, while pop artists like Madonna make it in?!?

Ah, but Pink Floyd stopped being prog 10 years before they got in

(and Genesis way longer than that)

RRHOF, bah. Admission to the RRHOF is not like admission to Cooperstown. There is no real statistic with which to compare the candidates, its just some opinions on how important someone was to R&R. And since it is just opinion that translates to how important the candidate was to the opinion holder.

If ABBA can be in there then Rush should be. Hell if ABBA can be in there then Kansas should be, The Dixie Dregs, Journey, and on and on.

Emmy's, Grammy's, Hall of Fames etc is more about who "they" want you to buy than who is best or worst. Should Jethro Tull beat Metallica in a heavy metal contest??? Should Eric Clapton win a best male vocalist contest against (fill in the blank)???

Problem is music is a lot like religion. We will argue which is best/worst rarely change any ones mind and maybe start wars over all this. We should embrace this diversity cuz this world would be pretty boring if we were all the same.

I'm not a big Rush fan but they do kick some serious R & R a**.

I was under the impression there was some kind of "longevity" criteria for the RRHoF.
J Giles Band? ummmm....

I second this.

I would also add The Smiths despite the fact that they never really broke here in the US while they existed. There would not have been "alternative" in the 90's or indie rock were it not for them.

As far as Rush, I personally can't stand them, but I do think they deserve to be in and can't justify why they haven't been in for some time now.
