Best band websites

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I'm doing a little research to try to make the best website I can for my band. So, what re your favourite band sites and what is it that you like about them? Also, any favourite myspace pages for bands would be helpful. I don't need to know if you like the music or not, just the layout of the site. Thanks in advance.

To start things off, I think www.enjoyincubus.com is really good.

On the one hand, on band websites I like a lot of eye candy. Flash, elaborate graphics, etc. OTOH, not everyone can view those sites, or it's at least a pain in the butt waiting for stuff to load if the connection is slow, or if you have to d/l the latest version of flash, or if the latest version doesn't support older content, etc... The eye candy can be a big drag from a functionality standpoint.

For that reason I use the absolute minimum of eye candy on all of my sites, so that everyone can view them with no hassle or delay. For example: http://www.ev-b.com
Primitive, but accessible.

Something simple to conforms to standards is what I like to see... Embedded music = bad, same with flash, bling, and all other sorts of web-dumbassery. Honestly, these days, a band is better off with a well laid out myspace page than a regular page anyways. I would use your server to host a bulletin board for the band and call it a day.

I agree with everything said thus far.

Embedded stuff is baaad. I HATE it when I go to a website and can't figure out how to turn off the song that comes blaring in as soon as it loads.

I recommend finding a template that conforms with the current web standards and customizing it; It's easier than building something and you don't have to worry so much about it being compatible. (My site is XHTML 1.0 and CSS2 valid and loads in a flash)
